The MVR Matrix Screen Savers

After posting the article about the best free screen savers a few days ago I was amazed receiving quite a lot request to provide more details about the Matrix screen saver by MVR that I had only mentioned in my article. So instead of replying to everybody individually, here it is for all you Matrix fans:

MVR 3D created some beautiful 3-dimensional screen savers a few years ago. They had their own website at mvr.us, but as I said before, this homepage is off the Intenet right now. Three of their screen savers were those related to the Matrix trilogy. They are very similar but have some individual differences.

Matrix Reloaded Pure Screen Saver

Matrix Reloaded Pure

is an engine that produces a beautiful 3-dimensional animation of the Matrix symbols dropping from top to bottom, but also slowly moving from a distance towards you. The symbols get bigger on their way towards you, some of them gain in brightness and brilliance and some of them dissolve slowly until they disappear.

This screen saver, as well as the others, is interactive tool. If you move your mouse while it is running you can change your viewpoint in the 3-dimensional space. Move on top of the symbols to see them fall down or sneak underneath them and have them fall on you. Press F1 to get help about more keys that you can use to interact.

This variation of the above does exactly the same but adds a very nice feature for the movie fans. I like this one most. After five minutes or so (so be patient when you watch) distorted images of the movie appear in the far distance. Slowly but surely they move towards you and with their size getting bigger you can finally see Neo, Trinity or Morpheus and other shots from the movie. Your viewpoint by the way, like in the Pure one as well, changes after a while by itself. The camera moves around in the 3-dimensional space.

Matrix Revolutions Screen Saver

Matrix Revolutions

The third installment of the MVR Matrix screen savers is a variaton in symbols and effects and is as beautiful as the others. This one shows more symbols from the start and this time they are not moving towards you but away from you. Also, about every minute the words "Matrix Revolutions" appear, slowly moving away with the symbols and are then dissolved letter by letter. A nice touch.

This screen saver offers the same interactivity feature as the others. By the way, all three of them can be configured as well when selecting them in the Windows screen saver dialog. For this one here you can select the number of lines, speed and other parameters or you can change the message "Matrix Revolutions" to anything else.

I really like these screen savers a lot. They are beautifully made and I just don't get tired of them. MVR offered these screen savers for donwload as .EXE files that install them conveniently for you. But as I said, the MVR site is down and since they are free and so good I decided to host them on my website for donwload. However, I just zipped the .SCR files. Simply put them in your Windows or Windows/System32 folder.

I downloaded it and I liked it. The trouble is my firewall kept reporting that it was trying to access the internet. So I got suspicious and deleted it.

Hi there,

Firstly, thanks for hosting these files on your server. Unfortunately, Kaspersky is warning me about all 3 saying that they're trying to load keyloggers. Anyone else showing this?

Chris

Hi,
AVG and Avira don't report anything. Maybe its a false positive. Let's see what other have to say about that.
Best regards,
George

Thanks George. You do good work.

Hi, are there Mac versions?

Sorry, I don't think MVR did release their savers for Mac.

Cool idea, but I encountered two problems. 1) Although the settings indicate it will run on multiple monitors, I could only get it to display on my laptop screen, not my extended desktop. 2) When exiting the screen saver, it would crash.

Ditto - thanks!

Thanks George.

Got it. I thought it was somewhere on Gizmo's page. That's what was confusing me.

I wish it loaded into the Windows Display Screensaver area so I could control it with the rest of my screen Savers.

It is cool though.

Robert

Hi Robert,
just copy the .SCR files into your Windows or Windows/System32 directory. They will then automatically appear in your Windows Screen Saver dialog.
Best regards,
George

Thanks George for the info on copying .SCR files into Windows/System32 directory. Didn't know it was that easy.

Gizmo,

I'm not finding the downloads section for the MVR. Can you give me a hint (...like a link?)

Thanks,

Robert
