mpeg-4 video editor

I have a video camera that outputs files in the H.264 mp4 format. I would like to be able to do some basic editing before using the movies.

I would rather not have to convert the files first as there is a loss of quality.

Has anyone got any recommendations?

Same problem. No answer. My camera is a Samsung smx-f40. Original video is pretty good. Just can't find anyway to edit it into a smoother look. The Samsung help site is a joke! Am returning the camera to the seller.
