missing drive letters in My Computer

My computer got into a loop and I had to reinstal Windows Xp and all the components.  It is back up and running BUT  when I use a thumb drive or a digital camera the computer picks it up and tells me that it is ready to use but it does not show in my computer nor in the right click move box

I have tried System Tools, Computer Mangement and the extra drive is showing there. It is also showing in the drop down box of Word.  It dose not show in Explore

Do you know how to get it to show in My Computer

Hey
Many of my drives were missing in "My Computer"..
Then I tried to Access its content files through the address bar in the Explorer..
It said "Cannot find 'file:///x:/'(Where x is any of my drive). Make sure the path or Internet address is correct. "
When I was trying to play songs via iTunes (Songs which were already in its Library).
It said "Cannot Play this File.File Missing." Even though allthe songs were listed there..These all songs seemed to be like "UNCLICKABLE GREY LISTINGS"...
How can I Bring all my drives back . Please Help.. :(

But what if the drive letter you want to change is the boot drive? See here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/223188

I have found the answer to the problem. You have to locate and rename or delete sptd.sys. When this is done the computer works fine. Also you can view the contents of the drive through Internet Explorer.

This is very strange, sptd.sys is a device driver. SCSI Pass Through Direct is used for many virtual drive software tools. I also have it on my PC but I never have that problem, do you have Alcohol or Daemon installed? They don't work anymore, do they? Have you tried updating the driver?

Thank you Joe. Unfortunately that did not work. Any other suggestions? Since posting I have downloaded a Hotfix from Microsoft which seemed to cover the problem but that has not worked either it is so frustrating.

We deal with this problem all the time at my job.

I suggest you try the following:

1) Right click on "My Computer"
2) Click on "Manage"
3) When the "Computer Management" screen comes up, click on "Disk Management" on the left panel.
4) The lower part of the right panel will show each volume that XP can see. It should show your flash drive. Right click on the drive that is your flash drive and then click on, "Change Drive letters and paths". This will allow you to assign a logical drive letter to the flash drive. Just click on the "Change" button and select a drive letter you know is not already in use. This will assign it a logical drive letter and XP will then pop up the flash drive.

Let us know if this works for you.
