Manage Your Browser Bookmarks With This Free Program

Organize, annotate or store your browser bookmarks (favorites) using this versatile, free program.

'With Linkman Lite you can store, organize and annotate your favorite Internet pages. Linkman Lite efficiently handles large amounts of URLs by using a database to store your links. You can easily add links from all browser windows and retrieve keywords and descriptions automatically. The user interface is highly customizable. You get the capability to import and synchronize from existing bookmark collections and export bookmarks in a variety of formats. Linkman Lite supports multiple versions of ten different Windows browsers.'

Linkman Lite stands out in handling bookmarks quickly and efficiently. It handled a 10,000+ duplicate bookmark search and subsequent organizing without a hitch (my bookmarks really needed weeding). Smaller amounts of bookmarks are handled much faster. The current version of Linkman Lite (and Pro) do not support exporting Firefox 3 bookmarks in their native format. A workaround is to export them in another format and import them into Firefox 3. This is its main drawback, which is tiresome at best, though I thought the program made up for it in its ease of use and rapid response.

Linkman comes in two versions, Lite and Pro. The main difference between the two is the Pro version has a URL validation and page change check feature. However, Links can also by checked by using the program Best Free Bookmark Cleaner, recommended here at Gizmo's Freeware.

The Lite version is free for private non-commercial use as well as for use in charity organizations and educational use. A 100 page Linkman PDF manual is available for download and there's a video tutorial on the site.

Linkman runs on Win9x/Win2k/WinXP/Vista/Win7

Rhiannon - do you happen to have a direct link to said pdf manual? I've been trying to find it on their website, but all I found was a very outdated online-help. (E.g. it states that Opera is not supported and that Chrome can only export its bookmarks into IE favorites format -- both no longer true.)

One more thing: Geez! As a German looking at this product by a German company, I believe I'm permitted to say that this is one of those "overkill" programs that lets you do everything and gives you control over each and every aspect of everything. Whereas I appreciate this in principle, sometimes I'd just like to have a simple great tool.

Rhiannon had posted a link to the pdf file, in her comment below. But, I have edited it out, because we do not allow direct link to any kind of files.

But, I am providing a link from where you can download the pdf manual. The OuterTech site has been revamped, and they have made finding things a bit difficult. I had to search for a few minutes, before I could locate the pdf file.

Here is where you can find it :

Under Linkman download category, look for the "Additional downloads" link. Click on it, and it will show the download link for the pdf manual. Tricky, huh?

Thank you very much, Anupam. It was indeed tricky. They get a D (or 5- in German school notes) for the user experience on that download page. I honestly didn't even see "additional downloads" (grey font and positioned in the middle, it looked like a separator to me!), though I had searched on that page.

Yes! Now I'm all set to check for everything I want to know BEFORE I install this! :-)

You are welcome :).

You are correct, it looks like a separator. That's what I thought too. I looked around the whole site trying to find the link. I had looked at the download page too. It was really tricky.

They had a tutorial video for LinkMan too. But, that I cannot find. It was a good tutorial.

Thanks Anupam. :)

"A 100 page Linkman PDF manual is available"

Ahhhh!! I hope that doesn't mean it's that complicated! ;-)

Thanks for this. Seems to be exactly what I've been looking for. Since every new version of the browsers I use can hold a bad surprised (happened to me twice now, with Iron (non-call-home-version of Chrome) and Opera), I've decided to become as independent from any specific browser as possible.

@SilenceIsGolden

Is it complicated? I don't think so, but I don't know or use many of the features. There are a bunch of screenshots on the site but I haven't looked them over since I don't use the advanced features. :)

It works great for managing bookmarks - finding duplicates, checking dead links, adding, organizing and deleting bookmarks. It has a good search feature. It integrates with IE, Firefox, Google Chrome and Opera.

It will track and manage your bookmarks from the above mentioned browsers as a stand alone program, with add-ons for each program.

It's not a big download, you might want to give it a try and see how the interface works for you - I use the buttons on the toolbar to do what I need to do.

They have a portable version but it's only available in the paid version.
Speaking of not being browser specific, online bookmarking service Delicious has just been purchased by two of the guys who created YouTube. I'm looking forward to some innovation and new features. Should be fun. :)

Hope that helps.

Gave Linkman a try and within an hour or two, while it was running, Internet Explorer 9.0 hung up on me for the first time since installing IE 9 about a week ago. Just a coincidence? Perhaps, but IE 9 has been running fine ever since disabling Linkman.

@LearningAsIGo
Hmmmm, I'm not sure what would cause that. I'm guessing you are running the latest version of Linkman. Outertech has updated their browser add-ons and IE 7 through 9 are supported, I didn't turn up anything in a quick search about a problem, but you never know. :)

Linkman Lite is powerful but ugly and confusing!

A better option is MetaProducts Inquiry Basic, it can integrate directly with your web-browser. http://www.metaproducts.com/mp/inquiry_basic_edition.htm

Previous comment it's not well-intentioned and inaccurate.

MetaProducts Inquiry Basic is a Web Pages Organizer and not a Bookmark Manager.

Of course Linkman Lite integrates with both most popular browsers (IE & Firefox), and on top of that, it's compatible with more than ten other popular browsers (almost any existent browser).

Linkman Lite it's the best solution I found for managing bookmarks when using more than one browser, or you have many bookmarks.
