Make Your Own Customized Bootable Linux Live CD (or USB Stick)
Recent versions of Ubuntu and other Linux distros can be set up to create “persistent” live CDs and USB flash drives where your data is saved across sessions.
That’s nice but what if you want to preserve your wallpaper, theme, custom drivers, apps and general system configuration? In other words, have a live CD or USB where Linux is configured specifically to your personal taste and requirements.
This may sound like wishful thinking but there is an open source program called Remastersys designed to do exactly this job.
Remastersys is a tool for Ubuntu or Debian-based systems that allows you to make a full system backup to a live CD or DVD. By using other tools like Unetbootin you can also create a bootable live USB flash drive from the ISO created by Remastersys.
To use Remastersys you need to have an installed working version of Ubuntu or other Debian-based Linux distro, presumably one you have already customized to your needs.
Full instructions how to use Remastersys can be found here:

I’m only a novice at Linux but I managed to create my own customized live USB flash drive with only a couple of minor hiccups. Even so, I wouldn’t recommend Remastersys to complete Linux novices.
Now my flash drive loads a version of Linux that looks just like the way I want it to look and with the programs and tools that I need. That's the way it ought to be.

Remastersys is great, but it just got taken down!!! Does anybody know of any alternatives?
Was just recently introduce to Remastersys and I'm experimenting with how to best use it. Have already trashed a couple of CD's but finally managed to burn a good CD that will boot like a live CD. What a great utility although there is a bit of a learning curve.
There are other ways to create a bootable USB stick that can run Linux and save your changes to the USB stick when you done. More information can be found from Pendrivelinux.com. I've been runny Puppy linux from my USB stick for some time. You are however limited by the size of your USB stick. Puppy linux is very small so a 2 gig USB drive works well for me.

Remastersys is one of the best tools in linux. It works wonderfully in ubuntu and it's variants. It works in SOME debian systems, but it's not at all easy to install/use in debian systems unfortunately.
But for all the buntu's it's a godsend. One of the benefits of linux is the ability to customize a distro to your very specific tastes. This is great, but one difficulty is it's easy to also hose your system by tweaking it so much. Remasters allows you to take a precise "snapshot" of a good working tweaked system. Then you can go on and continue to tweak, customize, etc. If your OS gets hosed, no biggy, just go back to your previous iso you saved via remastersys. Boom, you've only lost a small amount of work and you are back to your customized distro. Awesome!
Hai Thanks a lot..
Its Excellent....
