Make Using Google Gmail Easier and Faster With Keyboard Shortcuts

Many people have Google Gmail accounts but not everybody knows that there are a substantial number of keyboard shortcuts available to speed up using Gmail. They are listed at this link. Unlike some other  services, these shortcuts are not automatically enabled for Gmail.

How to turn on the use of keyboard shortcuts

  1. Go to your Gmail account page
  2. Click “Settings” in the upper right corner.
  3. In the Settings list that appears,  find the entry for keyboard shortcuts. (It's near the top.)
  4. Click the radio button next to “Keyboard shortcuts on”.
  5. Click "Save changes".

Undocumented shortcuts

In addition to the list of shortcuts given by Google, there are several undocumented ones. To compose a new email message with both carbon copy (cc) and blind carbon (bc) fields, press the single key “b”. To add just a cc field press “d”.
