Mac Attack: 100 Free Programs for Mac OS X

There's a wide variety of freeware for your Mac OS X to choose from at this site.

If you own a Mac or know someone who does, this is a great list of free programs.
Several of the programs listed are cross platform applications, meaning that they'll run on Macs, Linux and Windows. OpenOffice, IBM Lotus Symphony, GIMP, Inkscape, Jing are a few of the cross platform programs.
Some programs have a web appilcation in addition to a downloadable application, like Yoono.

The applications are nicely broken down into the following categories:

  • System Monitoring and Maintenance Tools
  • System Enhancement Tools
  • Office Suite/Word Processing/Text Editor
  • Image Viewer/Image editor
  • Software complementing iTunes
  • Productivity Tools
  • Backup and Synchronization Tools
  • Instant Messaging
  • Archiving Tools
  • Screen Capture Tools
  • Uninstaller Tools
  • Desktop Note taking app

Have fun browsing the list.
One more thing - I don't have a Mac, and I don't know enough about Mac software to sift through what's good and what's not, other than a few apps like Quicksilver. I have confidence that all of you Mac users will be able to discern what you might like or want from the list.

Keep posting mac & windows, many of us use both!

I never said they were unappreciated or should be brushed off. It's just if you look at the recent "Daily" Tech Treats it's pretty much Mac, Win7, Mac, Win7, Mac, Win7. Where as if you look at pages say 2-5 and there are only a few Mac/Win7 specific articles. I don't expect TSA to not post anything specific only to Mac/Win7. I am simply saying that they have been quite frequent lately, especially when you compare that to their frequency before a month ago. Would you not agree?

What is with all the Mac articles lately..?

Why not?

Not everyone uses a Mac. I think there is an overabundance of Mac articles lately and not enough actual freeware/web tools/etc articles.

There are some who say that nearly everyone uses MAC because Microsoft took the ideas from them in the first place :D

Not everyone uses Mac... but still, there are a lot of people who use Mac. Stuff about Mac is less on the site, there is not an overabundance as you call it. Just because it does not serve your purpose, its not useless. There are other people who need these articles. Just as people use Windows, there are people who use Linux and Mac. TSA has been trying to get articles related to these OS as well, to cater to their needs. It should be appreciated, and not brushed off.

As far as other freeware articles are concerned, everyone knows there is a lot on TSA, which is kept updated, and more keeps appearing.
