Looking for a file size analyser
Hello All,
I'm looking for a software tool that can analyse the files on a harddisk and output a report showing file size ranges and the number of files in that size range. Kind of like a distribution / histogram.
I'm aware that the Windows disk defragmenter gives a high-level report, which includes average file size on the disk. This is useful, but I am after more detail.
The reason I need this is because I'm looking at setting up a RAID0 and from what I can gather from various tech forums is that the most common file sizes used by the OS should be factored into the decision of what stripe size to use, otherwise the RAID setup can be more trouble than it's worth.
Any help on where to find such a tool would be most appreciated. Apologies in advance if the answer is already somewhere on the forum and I missed it.
Cheers,
S

Thanks tony and mikedutch for the links. The one that does the trick for me is JDiskReport, no question! I wanted a size distribution and there it was, a tab saying Size Dist! Excellent.
I also like Sequoia for the alternative way of viewing file sizes. It's a bit like Business Intelligence but for the harddrive. JDiskReport and Sequioa are definitly in the toolbox from now on.
Xinorbis seems to be getting stuck every time I start a scan ... dunno if there is some technical funny on my system, but so far couldn't get it to work. Can you guys tell me if I'm missing out on anything?
Cheers and thanks again

This editorial shows you how your hard drive is distributed by different files.

SequoiaView shows the distribution of the files. Hope it helps if not I have gotten the wrong end of the stick
