Try task killer
Give these two a try:
Process Hacker
Process Lasso
I've been using Advanced Process Termination from Diamond CS:
http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/advancedseries/apt.php
It offers a rudimentary process view but there are lots of terminate buttons, one for each method permitted under windows, starting from a gentle termination request up to a severe demand to terminate.
The site has a number of other freeware utilities that are worth looking at too.
I first heard about this site in www.bangkokpost.com which has a good computer section on Wednesdays with a regular column on freeware.
Simple answer is Enditall2, this program is the simplest most powerful process viewer/killer ever in my opinion of course give it a try. you can go to http://www.docsdownloads.com/enditall-1.htm to download the exe, zip, or rar which ever you prefer
Thank you.
EndItAll did the trick!
I have found that ab out 1/3 of the time Enditall tells me it was unable to kill the process. Then, it asks me if I want to protect this process so it can't be killed in the future, which seems like a very strange option at that point.
WinPatrol's another alternative, http://www.winpatrol.com/
I think McShield is component of McAfee protection suite, possibly an important one, so if you kill it I'm not sure how much of McAfee still work. If you don't want McAfee then download a replacement, disconnect from net (physically), uninstall McAfee and install replacement, reconnect to 'net and update replacement.
If you're trying to make your system run better go to http://www.blackviper.com/index.html, IMO its the "bible" on that sort of stuff.
Another possibility is to uncheck or right-click delete the desired items using Autoruns:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx
Try this: using Process Explorer, select the task/service, and right-click SUSPEND.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx
Another possibility:
WIN+R
Enter msconfig
Tab to Services
Uncheck the McAfee/Network Associates entries
McShield is a service and you will need to stop the service first.
