JKdefrag

I have just downloaded the freeware JKdefragger from http://www.kessels.com/Jkdefrag/ , but as soon as the download finished my Avast scanner went ballistic , telling me that a Trojan or Worm had attempted to invade my laptop and , although I use Firefox , an IE window opened and started flashing non-stop . I followed Avasts' recommendation to move the "infection" to the "chest" but because the IE window kept flashing , the only way I was able to continue was to re-start the laptop . I realise that the warning was probably a "false positive" but don't know if or how I can safely download and install the JKdefrag file . Can anyone please HELP ?

Hi

Did you download from the homepage here: http://www.kessels.com/JkDefrag/index.html ?

If so, it is probably an FP from Avast. Maybe you can contact Avast and tell them.

You can upload the file to VirusTotal here: http://www.virustotal.com/
or jotti: http://virusscan.jotti.org/
these two scans with many engines and if most of them do not detect it, hopefully it is a FP

I've also just downloaded jkdefrag.zip from the page and scanned with AntiVir free, SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and they all detect nothing.

Thanks or the info. Given that it is a false positive , how do I ,or even can I , go into avast settings and tell it to ALLOW me to install the progamme ?? Step by step help for a 55 yr old "technophobe" please !!!

I do not have Avast!, but this sticky on False Positives at their forum has info on setting an exclusion:

From what I have read on the web, this has to do with the JKDefrag GUI, probably the uninstaller.
It is a false positive. I am surprised it has not been corrected as this seems to have been around for quite some time.
