I Really Like This Web-Based Sticky-Note Organizer

For the past few weeks I've been looking for a program that will allow me to brainstorm ideas for a new book I'm working on.  I've always had in my mind a pretty good idea of how I want that program to look.  Just a mostly clear screen, really, on which I can create small notes and move them around.  I have a lot of ideas for this book, and somewhere where I can easily work to prioritise them is my main, er, priority.

And now I think I've found what I was looking for.  It's not a desktop app, as it happens, but a web-based system, which is fine by me.  It's called Listhings (www.listhings.com).  It's free, it works in just about every modern browser, and is very easy to use.  You don't even have to register but, if you do, it means you can access your workspace from any PC.

As you can see from the screen shot, the interface is very clean.  Most of the screen is available for your notes.  You can also create multiple "canvases", ie separate screens, and flip between them (I have 2 below, called My Notes and Test).

There's even a handy option which downloads the current canvas as an HTML file, thus providing a handing backup just in case the web site ever fails.

If you tend to think best when you're at a computer, but you want the flexibility of a whiteboard and a pad of sticky notes, give this one a try.

I just started testing "The Big Picture": Nice cross between a checklist/note pad and mind-mapping program.

Thanks for that Jojoyee, I think I'd best view the page in a 'normal' browser like FF or IE. I'm using an odd one and it seems that some of the page bits aren't visible.

I am on the same opinion

This looks like something that will be really useful. Thanks very much for the review.

However, I registered but I still can't see the special option which downloads the canvas as an html file.
Is it something other than the normal Save or Save As?

RoseGarden, you might want to try to click to the left of a tab such as "My notes", you can then rename a tab or download notes on a canvas in html format for a backup.

I really like this for general short notes, but there's no apparent way to download the notes other than copy/paste...so for scene outlines or story ideas I think I'll stick with Liquid Story Binder. But this is good for computer-to-computer simple to-do lists, so thanks for finding it and sharing.
