Having Trouble Uninstalling Windows Live Messenger? Try This.

Apparently, a lot of Windows users have trouble when trying to uninstall Windows Live Messenger.  Especially if, for some reason, there are remnants of a half-deleted installation on the machine.

Even if you can't delete it via the Control Panel, there's another way.  Simply run the "msiexec" command, followed by the unique ID code for your installation of Windows Live Messenger.  Trouble is, it's not always easy to find that unique ID.

Windows Live Messenger Uninstaller is a simple, free utility that does the job for you, by searching the registry in order to find the ID code for WLM on your PC.  It then presents you with the msiexec command that you need to run, as can be seen in the screen shot below.  You can choose to run the command from within the uninstaller program, or, if you prefer, just copy and paste it into the "run" box on your Start menu and do it yourself.

So if you've been having problems removing Windows Live Messenger, check out this handy utility at http://blog.eddsn.com/2009/12/windows-live-messenger-uninstaller-v0-01/.  It's a tiny download, and works on Windows XP and above.

Thanks for posting this. I will give it a try if I do a new install.

For years I have used Shoot The Messenger.

It works if someone wants to get rid of MS messenger on WinXP.
