Get top rated Bullguard Internet Security Suite for FREE! (Expired)

Although not so well known in some parts of the world, Bullguard Internet Security is a top-level security suite from Denmark. With firewall technology licensed from Agnitum (Outpost) and anti-malware components from BitDefender, you will appreciate the pedigree of this software. One of the product's most interesting features is the way support is provided. Bullguard support staff can be contacted directly from the GUI and response times are reputed to be amongst the fastest in the industry.

The vendors are generously offering a full 12-month licence for Bullguard Internet Security free for all Gizmo's Freeware visitors for two days only commencing at 00.01 PST on Thursday 5th November and closing at 23.59 PST on Friday 6th November 2009. This offer comes with full support from Bullguard.

Please note:
We have been notified by Bullguard support that your browser must be set to accept cookies otherwise you will only receive a two month trial instead of the one year license.  You also need to be aware that other Antivirus programs or antispyware tools which you might have installed can also block cookies or lock them as if they are harmful, so you may need to adjust your settings for these too.

Bullguard Internet Security contains all of the features you would expect from a suite of this type:

On-access and on-demand scanning
Security updates every 2 hours
Webfiltering for proactive website scanning
Rootkit detection capabilities
Protection against identity theft
A powerful firewall
Intrusion and transmission detection
Antispyware Spam filter
Support: “ Free 24/7 Live support in plain English" accessed from the application interface.

In addition to the above Bullguard also offer 5 GB backup to protect all your most valued files and photos.

Here's how to get your copy of Bullguard Internet Security 8.5

1) Click this link: http://www.bullguard.com/tracking.aspx?url=try%2fbullguard-internet-secu...

Note: Following this link and downloading the program before the offer period begins will not enable you to obtain a free license.

Since installing Bullguard my email client (Thunderbird) performance has become ridiculously slow. I uninstall Bullguard and performance returns to a very reasonable level. Bullguard support is responsive in terms of getting back to you quickly, but their mindset seems to be uninstall each and every program on your system one by one until your performance improves. They just don't get that their program is likely the issue- Bull!!!!!!!!!!!

Had to d/l and activate within the promo period. That should have been made clear. I d/l'd timely but waited until tonight to install. Bullguard says no dice; only 60 days for you. Karma. Bullguard and I were never meant to be. Thanks for the prompt "Hell no" Bullguard! You guys don't need our money...it'll be worthless soon anyway.

Windows7, no problems at all

Could not handle the sluggishness. Uninstalled bullguard my computer was crawling. ba bye bullguard.

Cheers
Wdhpr

Please note that I was under the mistaken impression that this offer had been setup for a single user license. I've now learned that the licenses issued during the offer period can be used on up to three computers.

I tried the trial version and was not really impressed. That is just me. I like things simple and there are just to many options to consider. For some though I think this will be a great replacement for the ailing AntiVir and the once great AVG. Hopefully their firewall is top notch. But it's been great for all the offers you bring us here. I have had the opportunity to try some really great software, and while this weeks wasn't suited for me I am hoping next week's offering with fit in quite well. Excellent finds TSA!

These are valid points. Bullguard is actually easier than most to set up (unless you venture into the custom firewall settings) but it appears not to be because the options are easily visible. A lot of people think Avira is easier for instance but they don't realize you have to engage "expert" mode to activate rootkit protection and adjust the scan settings. Consequently, most of the machines I see with Avira installed don't have these features activated or properly configured. I guess like you I'm always looking for my ultimate solution. Currently I would like a suite with the performance of a-squared, the firewall from CIS, the configurations and support of Bullguard all wrapped up in Rising's GUI. Guess we live and hope!

My bulldog was showing 6 6 months subscription. It just backed down to a 60 day subscription. What's up with that?

Mine was showing 58 days, 2 days after installing it. When I got on to Live Chat with them, we played with it for a minute, then it said I had 423 days left! Big difference between 423 days and 365, wouldn't you say? But it seems to work great, really light on resources.

Hi everyone.
A follow up to the svchost.exe issue.
I just noticed that Windows Defender runs in the backround.
So, according to MidnightCowboy, this might have sth to do with the whole situation.
I'll get rid of it, see how it goes & report back.

If anyone else has some feedback, let us know.
Cheers!

With over 22,000 hits on the page during the offer period this has been quite a challenge to keep up with, both here and at Bullguard HQ.

I'd like to thank everyone for their patience, especially during the early stages before it became known that full cookie permissions were necessary to process the offer.

I'd also like to thank chris.p for helping out with some of the queries after I went to bed!

If anything of yours has become buried in the list please shout at me again from the top of the pile so that I can see it and respond.

Please note that I will follow up individual issues in cases where you feel that Bullguard support have not provided a satisfactory conclusion but you will need to register here and make a request from the Forum thread. Quite naturally Bullguard will not respond to anonymous requests and I wouldn't ask them to.

http://www.techsupportalert.com/freeware-forum/security/2223-bullguard-i...

There is a lot to like about this software but equally so it has features and characteristics which some users might not find acceptable. Whatever your opinions please continue to share them with us if for no other reason than Bullguard can consider these on the run up to V9 which is due out Q1 of next year.

For those not finding it suitable don't forget the a-squared Anti-Malware offer in four days time!

Thanks guys!!!

Got 365 Days Trial.......Thankz For Gizmo!

Hi everyone,

Just installed the BullGuard 8.7 For Vista X64 on my Toshiba laptop.
Smooth as silk 'cept for chatting with Diana who changed subscription to expire in 1 year + 4 days!! Also after doing a little checking around, found that the subscription is good for up to 3 computers!! Says - after installing on 2nd or 3rd PC, you'll be asked to register, press option - I already have a BullGuard Account - and login with your current username & password!!

You should check the email you used to register, it will have info in there and a link to go to "My Account" at BullGuard. You can also get there by clicking in the BullGuard (BG) pgm window on left side (icons): support -more Help Tab, FAQ. That will take you to BG support where you can click on tabs to also look at your account (where you can change ur password, etc.), and a whole bunch of other things!!

On the programs main screen - If you click on any of the left side icons and then click on the circled question mark at bottom left of main page, where it says: Do you need some help?, it will open a right side info box with additional info. It will stay open and change while you click each different icon, giving you more info on each function! Pretty neat!

WHO HOO!!

SUE ;>)

PS: Yes the firewall has 'custom' setting you can set urself (if you know what to do)!?
Also pgm gives you 5,000MB of online storage for free!!

I would love to install Bullguard on my girlfriend's computer but I can't get to her house for the next couple of days. Is there some way of downloading it to my computer, getting a registration number and installing it on her computer in a day or two? I can't think of any way but maybe someone can. (I already have Kaspersky on my own computer so I don't need Bullguard - but she does).

Thanks in advance,

Keith

Hello,

I would say to contact support: www.bullguard.com/support.aspx
there is a live chat there, ask them what they can do for you!

At the very least, I think if you can find someone who would give you their user id (email account address) and the password (not to their email account), which they could change after you have used it to "register" the pgm, you'd be set.

you wud have to download the pgm now though, and make certain it is the version for your 'other' computer (x86) or (X64).

There is NO license key needed for the program, only email address and passsword assigned by BG!

The program is listed (once installed), as a "TRIAL" version good for 365 days!

Hope this helps!!

Sue ;>)

MidnightCowboy,

I had posted a message to you and saw it go to #1 and now I can't find it!
I can not even find the one you had replied to me about welcoming me to the site/board. Am I doing something incorrectly??

My previous post stated that I did go to the web site to D/L the BullGuard file but the downloaded file said it was BullGuard_87_x64.exe NOT version 8.5 as stated in your description of the program.

When I started to install it is also said it was version 8.7, so I stopped the install.

Did I not get the correct version??

Please answer as the time of the offer is quickly approaching the end.

Thank you so much!

Sincerely,
Sue

Go ahead, it's the correct one.
Good luck!

Yes, the ".7" just refers to the point at which compatibility with Windows 7 was introduced.

Downloaded and installed this software according to instructions
Got 60 days trial
here is answer from support:

Dear BullGuard User,
Thank you for contacting BullGuard Support.
Unfortunately, as you did not follow the exact instructions from the Gizmo website, the offer does no longer apply to you. We are sorry for the inconvenience
Do not hesitate to get back to us should you require further assistance or information.
Thank you for trying BullGuard.

So what is this offer? Fake?

I got the same thing.

This is the person that wrote "I got the same thing". Shortly after posting that it upgraded to the one year version.

Good to see it got sorted for you.

I'll ask them and find out

They have corrected my account to 365 days trial
Really )
Thanks!

Great. Thanks for letting me know. I had already sent the email but I'll cancel it now.

Hi everyone,
@Anonymous about Host Files: I updated Spybot as well as SpywareBlaster and BullGuard did not object, nor seems to be any conflict. I keep it, as I wasn't able to figure out if it's covered by BullGuard or not.

@Everyone
At 1st boot and any other reboot, svchost.exe with (4 services of BullGuard) take a huge amount of memory up for quite a while, then sink to very low levels.

@Midnight:
I got my 12mths license fine yesterday.
Today, just out of curiosity, I ran Prevx 3.0 (free) and after that, I got the Monitoring feature running in the backround.
Should I leave it or disable it? So far no trouble & it's using very little memory.
Thanks in advance.

I am using Bullguard for over two days now and did rebooted my system quite a few times but still svchost.exe always remain at around 160, 000K and doesn't seems to dip. My system is Intel Core2 duo T8300@2.4 GHz with 4GB Ram. WinXPSP3. Any Suggestions??????

Hi there, just read your posts.
I'm the one you replied to.
(My original post:
@Everyone
At 1st boot and any other reboot, svchost.exe with (4 services of BullGuard) take a huge amount of memory up for quite a while, then sink to very low levels.)

I'll take that back.
It's rising to the levels you mention and drops to low ones many times, but I haven't figured out if there's a pattern to it. It also uses a lot of virtual memory.
The 4 services causing that are:
1. BullGuard Main Service.
2. BullGuard File Scan Service.
3. BullGuard Firewall Service.
4. BullGuard Email Monitoring Service.

I, unfortunately, run WIN XP SP3 on a single CPU system with 1,5 GB Ram, and this thing gets noticeable when running a few resource demanding apps. Biggest annoyance is Firefox taking too long to render pages.

I'm reluctant to contact Support, as reading through the Forum, they always suggest to disable features one by one, up to the point of having everything disabled.
Maybe it's just not fit for my system.

Hi
These issues are "characteristic" of how Bullguard operates. This is one of the reasons why I said in my other piece that it won't suit everyone. It's only a physical issue on less powerful computers. I've never related speed and free memory to protection as I would rather have the latter, but I appreciate that people manage their software choices for their own reasons and not mine! I also don't advise disabling bits of a program although if your opinion differs you can certainly switch of the spam filter and maybe alter the scan settings so that not every file is monitored every time. This means doing more security work yourself though which rather defeats the object of having a suite. If this isn't acceptable then maybe another choice will suit your requirements better. Please also note that Bullguard stress that no other security software (including standalones) should be installed on the computer. Any which are will cause Bullguard to use more resources and also degrade it's performance. Again, I appreciate that some people will not find this acceptable and might want to look at an alternative. In fairness though, as with any program like this, it really needs to be installed and operated for at least a month before you can obtain a fair picture of how it's performance fits in with your needs and expectations.

The upcoming A2 offer is certainly an alternative although you will need either Windows or a third party firewall with this one. Previously I also found this to be on the heavy side for resource use. I can't offer a 'latest opinion' because since upgrading my system the Malware IDS and surf protection components in A2 won't support x64 systems until at least the end of this month.

Hi Midnight,

A2 is not so resource demanding as mentioned here more than once - or at least I haven't notice it on my system which is 5 years old. It plays nice with everything and the only time you feel some slowness is when the definition file is of considerable MBs.

Thanks for the update. Emsisoft did ask if I wanted to join their beta program but as I don't have access to test machines any more I prefer only to run final versions of software to minimize the risk. I will certainly re-visit A2 though once it becomes fully x64 compatible which is not too far away now.

I was seeing that same svchost.exe load until I popped out my network adapter card, and then it simply vanished. Card in, load up, card out, load down. Absolutely no indication of any network activity by either Windows or BullGuard, and yet the NIC switches the svchost.exe load on and off like a light. Very weird. I wonder what it's up to.

Really, it's up to you what you decide to run on your machine. I can have an opinion but in this instance I have to be guided by Bullguard's advice which matches that of all the other vendors. This was their statement to a member today to re-enforce what they had already told me by email yesterday.

"However, note that we STRONGLY discourage the use other security
suites/firewalls or standalone antiviruses, aside from some freeware removal
tools and software, which has been covered in one of Ilinca's earlier emails.

Having two firewalls can cause connectivity problems, as can having two
antiviruses cause major performance slowdowns."

The performance slowdowns don't just relate to the overall speed of your computer but also to the way in which the security software is able to process data. Hence they say that having two will reduce your overall protection, not increase it. Notice that they also include the installation of standalone anti-virus programs too.

As I've said in other places, suites like this are designed to be a total solution. If you don't trust it to do this, or don't like the concept in general, then the best plan is not to use a suite at all, and stick with the usual "layered" combination of whatever it is you like best. There is nothing worse than switching on your PC and having doubts. This will cause you unnecessary trauma, reduced enjoyment and encourage a tendency to "fiddle" with the advanced settings which is not ideal unless your system knowledge is at an advanced level.

Downloaded and installed smoothly last night, but only showed 60 days on the license after registering - probably a cookie issue as I routinely refuse all cookies I don't absolutely have to accept. A quick online chat with Bullguard support resulted in the license being extended to 369 days within seconds of providing my registered username. Ran a full scan of everything on my oldest system (XP SP3, 3 GHz Pentium HT, 2GB RAM, 2 hard drives (300GB), 4 partitions, millions of files including thousands of emails) which took over 6 hours, much slower than what I was used to with Norton IS 2009. Have not tried a quick scan yet, but hopefully it will be quick. Like the idea that email scanner can build a whitelist of email addresses from contact list and other addresses to which I have sent mail from all 4 accounts I access through Thunderbird. Firewall interruptions and intercepts are fairly low in number so far, but I do detect a little slowness in opening most sites the first time or two; after that, those same sites seems to open as quickly as before. Update checks and application of updates seem to be running well in background. So far, I like what I see, both esthetically and in terms of protection.

Hello all,

Just thought I'll pass on a glitch that I've found after installing 'Bullguard', which loaded just fine, with the 1 year ticket.
My system is XP with SP3, and after a download speed test check, found that it's dropped from 6Mb to 2Mb with 'Bullguard'.
Out of interest, the only other programe that I've found this glitch with is 'Outpost'.

Cheers

Thanks for mentioning this which might be of interest to anyone else experiencing the same issue. Bullguard's firewall code of course is licensed from Agnitum (Outpost) so there may well be a link. Please contact Bullguard support via the link from your GUI and let us know how they respond.

REF: Reduced download speeds.

After various adjustments using suggestions from BullGuard to pinpoint the problem, there has been no improvements in my download speed recovery. They (BullGuard) have suggested that Version 9.0 will have a "significantly improved Firewall engine to see the problem solved"......
I'll let you know.

Cheers

Thanks for the feedback. I'm led to believe that this is more of an issue for some than others, especially those who like me have to connect using a broadband modem. Makes sense I suppose because the network has to be routed through another externally mounted piece of kit before it reaches your own card. My own page rendering was hardly any slower but starting a download off was. After that though there was no noticeable speed difference. Unfortunately I had to remove Bullguard from my new machine because of a software conflict so I wasn't able to monitor this long term. The prospects for V9 look good anyway.

Thanks..

Downloaded and Installed and then contacted the Support through Chat when it was showing 60 days instead of 360 days. Support asked for confirmation of the link from which I had downloaded and then I copied and pasted the downloading link into chat window after which they had asked for re-login to change user under Accounts in Main option of BullGuard with password. I forgot my password and hence clicked forgot password and I got a mail with a link to change my password and I clicked that link or rather copied and pasted that link into new browser window and then in the appearing window entered appropriate information and I got my new password activated and then I used that new password to activate login to change user under Account in Main Menu and alas It has started to show now 360 days instead of 60 days. Its really superb. But i do not know how effective it is vis a vis Norton 360 or Spyware Doctor or Spy sweeper Security Suites against virus and spyware items. They also list how to remove some difficult viruses separately in online help. I still entertain some doubts regarding its full fledged effectiveness if its supplemental to other suites or it itself is a stand alone suite. Any idea how improve the security further using other suites or tools?

If using a suite like this, it is unwise to use any other products unless you know what you are doing. The purpose of a suite is to do everything. You certainly mustn't have another antivirus or firewall running.

I would however run a scan with A-Squared occasionally, it won't conflict. Or, it never has with other suites though I have no experience of Bullguard. With this suite you are essentially running Outpost firewall and BitDefender antivirus, so protection should be OK. Occasional spyware scans do no harm though.

Don't forget other components of a security set up, such as a good hardware firewall (probably already there in your router), and a security policy (like don't use Internet Explorer 6, don't download screensavers except from somewhere like Softpedia).

chris.p

While using Bullguard do we still have to protect the host file using Spybot or Hostman????????

Anyways thanks a lot for wonderful offer and support throughout the offer.

Bullguard state that there's is a complete suite and that no other security software is necessary. They also state that to have other security programs installed (even standalone scanners) may cause conflicts and degrade Bullguard's ability to protect your computer. I appreciate that some people will not find this acceptable in which case maybe the product is not the right choice.

Thank you very much for the program. I just downloaded installed and activated..everything is fine..got 1 year.. now will see how good Bullguard is than my old free one.. Already noted some detection of attack by firewall..Once again thank you.. :)

Had the same license problem as many others, contacted Bullguard in a civilized manner via live chat, a minute later it was fixed by reentering user name and password! Great support, great software works like a dream!

Hi Midnight,
do you know if there are comparative tests for the Bullguard Antivirus?if it is based on BitDefender it should rank a little lower than Avira. I also would like to know if the built-in firewall has preset rules like Outpost and Online Armor. Thanks.

Yes, the firewall has a lot of preset rules which Bullguard describes as being "optimal". You can see what these are by going to Firewall, Profiles, Custom Settings but your network knowledge needs to be at an advanced level before making any alterations here. Bullguard provide a very good firewall tutorial including "which is the right profile for me" which you might want to check out first.

Hi
There are links to some other reviews here in the article I wrote for the forum thread.

http://www.techsupportalert.com/freeware-forum/security/2223-bullguard-i...

As it says in the text though, don't take any of this stuff as gospel, just use the information to help your own decision. The Which? guys from the UK I trust because they are truly independent and also well regulated. You can easily compare these people with say AV Comparatives. The rest probably make as much sense as I do but at least gives you something else to read!

I have a brand new computer to put this in but it's not up and running yet (issue with monitor). Is it possible to download the Bullguard into my working machine during the Thurs/Fri time period but then not install it on the new one until my monitor returns?

Thanks,

Callie
