Get A Squared (A2) Anti-malware Free for 12 Months [expired]

Hey Gizmo.  Emsisoft is giving away one year licenses again for A2.  Here is the link I put up on SlickDeals:

Moderators comment:

We apologize for the confusion resulting from this post which was accepted in good faith but subsequently found to apply only to readers of a specific German magazine.  This is the reason why some of our visitors were able to take the offer before Emsisoft discovered the error and disabled the link.

We are hopeful that Emsisoft might donate a similar offer for Techsupportalert visitors in the future.

Spilled milk ... crying about something FREE ... DUMB AS DIRT CRYBABIES!

Quit acting like a bunch of babies you spoiled brats. Gizmo apologized for making a mistake. Live with it or go elsewhere.

Thanks for the apology. We still love ya. I have been subscribed to Gizmo for some time and this is the first mistake I have experienced. Usually the information is top rate and I am sure that this will be rectified and Gizmo will be better because of it.Keep up the good work

A bit too late it seems Gizmo...I received your Best Ever Freeware notice today July 6th when this freebie was apparently released July 2nd.
The password when submitting is of course expired or already used.
Your facts should be checked before sending out such information.
Are you not concerned about creditability? One look here from the replies suggests you best do the homework before making such erroneous claims.
Nice apology but like I said I just got this notice, ten minutes ago.

Hi

Unfortunately as you've seen once these things are set in motion the fallout continues for a while after. One of the challenges associated with a website having 80+ voluntary personnel spread (literally) all over the planet. The fact that this one arose over a weekend also made it more difficult to achieve a quick resolution.

These are not excuses but an admission that we need to review our procedures for submitting material accordingly.

Again please accept our apologies for presenting something in good faith but which should have been been subject to better scrutiny first.

Please now see the revised header above.

(Monday)

We are now in contact with Emsisoft regarding the status of the offer as posted and hope to provide a resolution for this later today.

Emsisoft have also informed me that A2 was recently equipped with a large signature database upgrade which was the reason behind many of the false positives seen during the past couple of weeks.

This is supposed to be a freeware site, so why do you bother putting up false adds and claims. If you bother yourself for just 2 minutes, you would know that this was a false claim, and not to put it up and waste peoples time!!!!!!
Is there responsible management for this site?

For 2 days, you could get ASquared full version following the instructions,I did... So where is the false claim?

Hi
I'm pleased you were able to get the offer while it was still "live"!
I've currently exchanged emails with several parties including Emsisoft but as per my previous post, being Sunday, we are unlikely to get a resolution until tomorrow 6th July. We will of course post here and in the forum as soon as we are able to confirm the status of the offer. Please bear with us.

Rest assured that we are trying to sort this out but it is the weekend and not everyone we are trying to contact is currently able to answer.

The "management" of this site consists of voluntary personnel who give their time freely to bring you what we hope is of interest. Everything is checked before it is posted in as far as it is possible for us to do. If you are unhappy with the way we manage this then I suggest you either use somewhere else or offer some of your own time to help us out.

Very good, thanks a lot.The best antimalware with Spysweeper for free!!!

Thank you Gizmo for keeping us updated with these great offers.

They WOULD be great offers if they lasted more than a couple of days. If the company wants me to try their software they will have to do better than this offer. Codes that do not work after 48 hours are not cool. I will remember A2 and avoid them for this. Good business plan Emisoft.

Software co offering a full license for an actual and complete product are quite rare, especially for more than a day or two.Usually, long term offers are for uncomplete or ancient products.

Then I believe someone should mark this "Hot Find" EXPIRED, so others don't waste their time registering.

A2 is second tier software anyways. Always will be too. Even the review on here says the paid version of the product locked up on his system during testing.

I tried today with the code kam-nef-max-558 and it said it was invalid or had already been used. I guess no freebie for me. :-(

same here

"The code you entered is not valid, has expired or has already been converted."

I think I'll pass on this..
After experiencing all the false positives, meaningless "threats", and enormous signature updates in the free version, I doubt it will be any better, more likely worse.

I still have Avira Internet Security (more like premium after all the disabling, just wanted increased license life), and would rather change to the free version instead of something that much more troublesome.

I agree... i tried the free Asquared 3 times and TONS of false positives.... tagged tune up utilities for 12 trojans???...A squared needs work...SAS and malware bytes are MUCH better programs...

Last week I sent them all of the Malwarebytes files that they falsely identified as malware, I mean how stupid do you have to be?

Again, I agree that the rate of FP's is a pain to deal with but if you look at what A2 finds in comparison to what a lot of the other top vendors miss then it's worth having. The Koobface worm for instance was (and still is) missed by some of the other established marques.

Please see also my new comment at the top.

It is true that the FP rate in a-squared is high and I've drawn attention to this myself before. That said the other features like the browsing protection do make this program well worth having, especially for free! The updates too are far less of a problem with the paid version.

Trojan detection must be legit,I myself have Tune Up on my system and nothing detected in that matter.Or maybe cracked version?

ya I agree, but the 3 times I used Aqsuared it detected all kinds of false positives, including the tune up utilities 12 trojans, I use Avira, SAS and Malware bytes and none of them detected all the "trojans' that A squared did..??

This is great!
My license of A2 from the previous offer from last year was almost expiring.
Here we go!
Thanks

Edit: Worked perfectly!
My license had 22 days to go, now it runs till 2-Jul-2010.
(I didn't toe the line to wait 21 extra days ;o)

I posted this info at another security forum, and it was censored on the gounds that this offer was limited to a restricted group.

Is this true? I did not have to join any group or website to take advantage of this, as i was already registered at Emisoft.

I received this newsletter half an hour ago, but had to register with Emsisoft. I must have completed the Captsha (or whatever it's called) twenty times, and had twenty rejections. Eventually I gave up in disgust. Now I know why:-) Thanks anyway Gizmo... Bob Bowen

Seems to be a lot of bellyachers and criticizers of a wonderful
site who has all volunteers. Why don't you bellyachers go elsewhere
or volunteer your time to make sure mistakes like this don't happen.
How ungrateful you are!!!!

Thanks indeed for your support and recognition. It is always a challenge to balance the freedom to post anonymously with the need to manage the content. This post for instance required contact between myself (Brazil), Germany, Austria and Australia. With several times zones involved there are other factors to consider too.

We are always open to suggestions about how to improve the operation of the site so please feel free to contribute.

I don't know where you anonymous people come from or live - neither do I care for that matter - but if a minor setback to your life brings out your nasty side so easily , then you need to grow up , get out more , learn about life and try to help others or as some of you say "get a life" !!
Things like Gizmo's guide to security and safe surfing will always be of immeasurably more value to visitors to this site than your pathetic , mean-spirited moaning and self pity.
I suggest you apologise to Gizmo and his volunteers right now . Although I certainly won't be holding my breath :((

Thanks Gizmo , Midnight Cowboy and everyone else !:-o))
Your efforts are highly appreciated ,
Anthony Wells.

Thanks Anthony.
