Get Paragon Backup & Recovery 10 Compact for FREE! (Expired)

Hey everybody Paragon Software is big on promotions and occasionally offer stuff for free. I just found that they are offering their Backup and Recovery Compact 10 edition (normally $40) for free. It is available for free until Tuesday, Jan 19th. Its not the full suite like they sell for $70 but it still has a lot of good features and is a great product. Here are the links:

32 bit edition-

http://www.v3.co.uk/v3/downloads/225...covery-compact

64 bit edition

http://www.v3.co.uk/v3/downloads/225...kup-recovery64

I've checked out the differences between Paragons Backup and Recovery Free and the compact edition does have a few more features, but not many. Here is a link to show the differences between the compact and the suite.

http://www.paragon-software.com/home/brs/br_comp-vs-suite.html

This is still a great offer on a quality product so go check it out, the article gives directions on how to obtain a license.

This link is bad. Click download and you just get advertisements.
:(

A fine back-up tool, I have tested it on a stand alone & it appears secure & does "what it says on the label." From individual folders to complete partition image transfer.
Good product.

The link is not good. It will always redirect to an advertisement page.

Glad it is working out for you

I got the software and serial code email just fine also. In fact I d/l'd both 32-bit and 64-bit and didn't have a problem at all.

I also agree that it's unfortunate but one has to be smart about the weight they place in anonymous online "reviews" and comments...both positive and negative. They are invariably at least partially gamed by both competitors and, more frequently, by the vendors of the products themselves. In this case, I personally am an Acronis user but Paragon's reputation and my experience with them prior both made me comfortable that this should be a solid, trustworthy product.

One of the best "Hot Finds" in a long time. Thanks Midnight Cowboy. It seems to indicate you as a new submitter but already your submission is not like the worthless fluff that some others (who shall remain nameless) keep flooding the HF area with. Very nice download.

Apologies, meant DLC50, not Midnight Cowboy (who most assuredly is not new :) ).

by MidnightCowboy on 17. January 2010 - 18:53  (41332)

Thanks a lot! I prefer to be regarded as being on the mature side of "ripe" - bit like cheese I guess? In any case, I only published this as a favor! If I understood it, it would help but thankfully we have DLC50 and new recruit Beverley to step in where MC's brain fears to tread :D

From V3.co.uk:

Both download links work, but can get saturated from time to time, due to demand. The files are rather large! However, they work.

Early next week we'll add a couple of additional servers (dl3, dl4), to help things further. We have more full apps to get online through 2010.

Thanks Chris I thought that this might be the problem and I appreciate your letting us know. The site is great and I look forward to whatever other promotions you may offer.

Quite often when offers like this are published, the first comments to appear are from rival vendors and/or their fanboys which are hardly likely to be complimentary about the product, links, instructions or anything.

What I always advise is to research a little bit elsewhere first, especially concerning software which could potentially cause you problems. A few minutes spent browsing in other forums will give you quite an insight into the products concerned. If what you see there is acceptable then this is the point at which you can decide if you need it or not.

I tried and tested Paragon. Very Disappointed. GFI Backup (formerly Titan) is easier and simpler to use. Also lighter.
GFI took 5 min to backup 80 gb (paragon 25 min !!). What a joke.

I uninstalled Paragon and stick to GFI and Acronis True Image. Theses 2 softs (coupled to an external hard drive) rescued me many times and faultless.

The speeds you can achieve are dependent on quite a number of factors, and without the requisite information, a simple comparison of speed like that is basically meaningless. What type of backup? Where to? Using what?

However this may be, here is Paragon Drive Backup 9.0 Express building an image of a system partition on an XP machine Pro SP3, to an external USB 2.0 drive;

I waited until it was nearly finished, and of course kept it on screen instead of minimising to the tray as usual;

The same imaging engine is in the software under discussion here.

It is completely unfair to call such software a joke without giving any sensible reasons why one thinks so.

Over the years, and also recently, I have used many systems and software, and this is one of the fastest most reliable pieces of software I have used.

The fact that it doesn't work in a "basic" state on some machines does not alter that.

by Anonymous on 16. January 2010 - 22:17  (41253)

I builded an image using Paragon...Corrupted! Never Happened with Acronis.

Also Titan Interface is so easy to understand and use. Paragon Interface is a mess. I was unable to find how to set differential or incremental options.

Hey I just wanted to let everybody know that I am glad to help you if you need it. Sometimes it may take me a little while to get back to you and post but I do not mind at all. This is why I am involved in a lot of forums, so if their is any help you require then post and I will get back to you.

Who is this person, Anonymous? People, register with the website please. Those of you claiming the links don't work must not be using firefox or you just don't know what you are doing. The links work fine. I have a PC that uses onboard ATI Radeon graphics. It has no problem booting the Paragon Recovery Disk. And adding a plug-in to a Win-PE disk like Ultimate Boot Disk for Windows is not a "problem" with the out of box Paragon product. Win-PE boot disks are 3rd party products not Paragon products. Paragon is under no obligation to provide plug-ins for these boot products but out of kindness they provide one or someone did. And really, Win-PE is not hard. Imaging is not hard. Recovery is not hard. Complaining about them is like complaining that 1st Grade curriculum is too hard. If you don't know how to learn the basics of using a PC then get off the internet and get rid of your PC and definitely stop asking every PC literate person you run into to solve your problems for you. To quote a t-shirt I just bought "Fix Your Own #$%#@ Computer". This stuff is not that hard.

Thanks to the many posts regading the many problems with this free application I can feel comfortable leaving it be. I often test out new apps either just for fun or to help others out after determinaing it contains no malware, somethimes even to the detriment of my machines (hey, practice makes perfect, kinda-sort of).;-) But it sounds like this one may be best left in the barn.

by DLC50 on 16. January 2010 - 6:36  (41211)

I am sorry you feel this way, but you are missing out on a great deal and a great program.

by DLC50 on 16. January 2010 - 1:41  (41191)

Sorry everybody I have been away from my computer so I was not able to reply to any posts. By the way I just happened to enter this find into google. I knew I would find a bunch of strings about it but I really didn't expect how many I did find. Seems like every forum on the net has posted about this so just be patient because their servers have got to be struggling.

by bsvols on 15. January 2010 - 23:51  (41184)

You can register with Paragon to have the license key emailed to you here : http://www.paragon-software.com/registration/brcompact.html . You still have to download the software from v3.co.uk . I tried all day yesterday, with all of the popular browsers, but just got error codes (404, 500, etc). I woke at 2:00am C.S.T (U.S.) and decided to try one more time. I finally got through and downloaded from v3, and it was a very slow download, but it worked. You will note on the Paragon reg. page that they will not provide download links. Just keep trying v3. ; patience & persistence will (probably) succeed.

thanks for the link; should have been in main article, imho. p.s. GO VOLS!

It downloads fine in firefox, just takes about 30-40 minutes. I couldn't get the download to start in IE

by Anonymous on 15. January 2010 - 19:53  (41148)

Question - can this be used to backup computers on a network?

by Anonymous on 15. January 2010 - 19:55  (41149)

That is, I mean can I use this program on one networked computer to back up other computers on the same network? Thanks.

by Anonymous on 15. January 2010 - 21:10  (41163)

No. The program has to be run on the machine you wish to back up in order to build an image.

You can of course transfer the images across networks if you want.

If you install the software on various machines, and automate it, ( or use remote control etc) you could then grab the images, and store them in a central location.

Have now run this on a number of machines, and it doesn't work on some. It installs OK, and you can run all the back-ups etc, from Windows, but the recovery media is unable to restore! Either it can not find the backups on an USB disc, or it wont mount the disc to begin with. While trying to find a solution for this I looked around a few places, and it seems quite a number of people have problems with it. This is also reflecetd in the reviews on some sites. Many saying it doesn't work.

This is a serious problem! So make sure you can boot the recovery media before you use the program.

When it works it is really good and reliable. This obviously has to do with the Linux boot loader having trouble with drivers and various hardware. I have not yet found a solution. In cases where a machine wont boot from the recovery media, or wont restore images etc, the software is of course useless!

MAKE SURE YOU CHECK CAREFULLY THAT IT WORKS BEFORE YOU RELY ON IT!

On all the machines where this did not work the "old" "Paragon Drive Backup 9.0 Express" still works perfectly for imaging. But there are no other back-up options in that version.

by DLC50 on 15. January 2010 - 18:54  (41141)

This is true I have also heard of these problems. That said you can restore right from the desktop unless your hard drive has crashed or for some reason you can not boot into windows. Anyways I do not know if this option is available for the giveaways, but the offer a Win PE recovery media that is a seperate download. Usually you can access this download from somewhere on the interface but if not try to log in to Paragon-software.com and go into your account, you will see your license and if you click on it i think you can tell if that option is available for download. Alternatively, Paragon has great support so if you were to contact them and explain your problem they may make the Win PE option availble to you. The Win PE recovery media is much more stable and I have never had a problem with it so you might want to see if you can get a copy. all they can do is say no.

by Anonymous on 15. January 2010 - 19:25  (41144)

You CAN NOT restore an image to a system from the machine which is running that system.

As my main use of this program is to back up my system partition, restoring from the desktop is NOT an option.

There is explicitly no support offered for their free programs, which I understand perfectly. There are no options available for download on any of my licences. ( I use several Paragon producs and am very happy with them).

This was not a criticism, of Paragon, the product, or your recommendation. I merely pointed out that it sometimes doesn't work, and this might prevent a few people tearing their hair out!

In my experience, many users are quick to donwload and try something, but often don't try it out completely before relying on it.

I have lost count of the useless "Backups" and "Images" I have had to deal with in the past! :)

At least juggling floppy discs is now more or less a thing of the past!
