Get $29.95 WinPatrol Plus for 99 Cents on Friday 29 Jan 2010 (Expired)

This offer has now expired.  For reviews of other free HIPS see here:

http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-hips.htm

Bill Pytlovany the developer of the highly regarded WinPatrol HIPS will be offering the $29.95 PLUS version of WinPatrol on Friday 29 January, 2010.  It's part of an experiment in pricing that Bill is trialling. Here is the full announcement from Bill:

"Have you noticed that most of the software you’re buying these days is only 99 cents?

The traditional software industry, like many, has been hit hard by slumping economic times. At least that’s what appears to be happening. I can’t help but notice traditional software distribution is in a state of flux not unlike the media and publishing industries.

The music industry which dealt with the downloading of free music has created a successful 99 cent per song model. Using mobile devices we’re now downloading decent software for as low as 99 cents. Who can’t afford an impulse purchase of $0.99. The Apple App Store made many new millionaires almost overnight at 99 cents a pop.

What about the rest of us who have spent years developing fully featured software on the Mac or Windows platform. Are customers going to revolt against prices which range from $30 like my own WinPatrol PLUS to programs like Photoshop which retails for $700?

I’m curious and thinking a crazy single day experiment could be fun and may be worth the risk. So what the hell. If you want to upgrade to WinPatrol PLUS on January 29th, I’ll give you a lifetime WinPatrol membership for less than a dollar. Instead of the regular price of $29.95 I’ll provide a coupon on WinPatrol.com that brings the price down to $0.99 USD. That comes out to approx. .70 € to our international friends

This will be a one-day only “experiment” starting at midnight EST on Jan 29th and will last 24 hours. Will over 30 times the normal number customers upgrade to WinPatrol PLUS? If so, will other software developers notice?

Like our current $30 plan, the 99¢ license will be good for life. Like sales in the App Store or Droid Market however, this license is only valid for a single computer. Coupons are also limited to one per customer. Sound fair enough? If you’ve been someday planning on upgrading to WinPatrol PLUS, January 29th is the day to remember. Just go to http://www.WinPatrol.com this Friday and you may be a part of history".

WinPatrol is a top product and one of our recommended HIPS. So don't miss this offer on Friday 29 January.
Thanks to subscriber "Joe" for alerting us about this offer. Thanks to Bill Pytlovany for allowing us to publish the offer.

I posted a thanks very much comment 2 days ago Bill. I wanted to bring to peoples attention the following article from the Winpatrol website. I myself, sometimes seem oblivious to small little details, and i completely missed the check box option.

http://billpstudios.blogspot.com/2008/01/winpatrol-14-enhances-keyloggin...

The above link is to remind all users of this fantastic program. Be aware. You have the option to tick that little box allowing to Display Secret Startup Locations. I have played around with Winpatrol and never noticed it before. Well done Bill, and many thanks.

I have a problem. I went through the entire process for payment, gave my credit card# went to the next page gave my name I pressed submit and the page timed out. (I understand how busy your site must be.) I pressed try again and firefox said it would have to resend the info including any payments sent. Will you help me to get my download link as you already have my .99 cents.
Sandra Jennings

I have emailed support concerning this problem.

Re use of pay pal to make purchase...see post #12(mine)

by Anonymous on Fri, 01/29/2010 - 20:27  (#42380)

PayPal part worked fine for me. 99 Cents.
Shows up as original 29.95 minus 28.96 = .99

I attempted to do this - Used PayPal and got the PayPal receipt but WinPatrol not recognize the activation code they gave me along with name I used. I attempted to send them an email with the information, code, PayPal receipts etc and that was undeliverable due to Mailbox full error.
support[at]winpatrol[DOT]com

I do not wish to give that information on this web site but would appreciate some input from WinPatrol as I currently have no way of reaching them although I will continue to resend the mail.

I know that Bill from WinPatrol is monitoring this thread and I'm sure he'll respond. As the weekend is approaching and he's also likely snowed under with the response (hence the mail box full) please bear with us until Monday. If you've not heard anything direct by then please prompt again here and I'll mail Bill direct for you.

by Jorjab on Sat, 01/30/2010 - 17:29  (#42426)

I have heard from Bill at WinPatrol and he is working to solve my problem. For some reason even though I am using correct name and code for Plus it does not work. Will post when solved.

by Jorjab on Sat, 01/30/2010 - 18:56  (#42431)

We are not sure why my original code does not work. Therefore, Bill at WinPatrol sent me a new code and WinPatrol now up and running perfectly.

I have used free product for several years and am happy to have had the opportunity to get the PLUS version.

by MidnightCowboy on Sat, 01/30/2010 - 18:41  (#42430)

Pleased to see he's on the case for you.

by Anonymous on Fri, 01/29/2010 - 13:35  (#42344)

Hi. I got this it from the UK at 63p, unbeliveable, I have been using the free Winpatrol for years, so nice one Gizmo, another great find.
Dave.

by Anonymous on Fri, 01/29/2010 - 04:03  (#42309)

It's working now as of 11:00 pm EST. I got mine!

by Anonymous on Thu, 01/28/2010 - 20:36  (#42291)

Thank you to everyone for the nice comments.

For our long term supporters I hope you'll understand. To be honest, I don't expect to make much on Friday at all. It really is an experiment. For a 99 cent purchase, PayPal and the credit card companies kill you.

I do hope the exposure will help more people learn about WinPatrol and over the long term this will benefit everyone. That will allow me to continue providing new features and improvements.

I apologize for the typos which have caused some confusion. I have corrected the references to Feb 29th on my pages and any non-consistencies.
I have added an FAQ to
http://billpstudios.blogspot.com/2010/01/great-99-cent-software-experime...

The date is January 29th.
The limit will be two per customer.
No coupons will be used. Anyone who goes to the online store will see the price of 99 cents. If you try and order it now it will still say $29.95.
(although, I may get too excited and turn on the special price before midnight, shhhhh ) :)

Thanks,
Bill

by Anonymous on Fri, 01/29/2010 - 12:18  (#42343)

Thank you for offering this. May it bring huge sale increases to you after the sale ends.
I just bought it and installed it. It is absolutely worth the full price that the program normally costs.

Dear Gizmo folks,

Do you advise installing WinPatrol alongside a program I have installed (offered free by my school) called Symantec Endpoint Protection? I have frequently seen warnings not to have two antivirus programs installed at the same time, but I'm not sure if WinPatrol would qualify as a second, conflicting program.

Thanks for any help.

by DLC50 on Fri, 01/29/2010 - 07:30  (#42328)

WinPatrol is not an anti virus program. It is a traditional HIPS component, meaning it monitors different parts of your system in real time and alerts you about changes that could possibly be malicious. It is a fantastic program, and it should work fine alongside your Symantec Endpoint. I have checked on the WinPatrol site and the only conflicts that are mentioned are with F-Secure. However, it is always good practice to create a backup when installing any security software, just in case of problems. But I think you will be fine.

by Anonymous on Thu, 01/28/2010 - 16:18  (#42277)

I have WINPatrol Plus for a few years, a great product for Windows users. Highly recommended. Don't pass this deal up.

by Anonymous on Thu, 01/28/2010 - 06:15  (#42253)

Used the links on this page to make the purchase on Fri after 12am east coast time. This is not a straight forward purchase...if I use my pay pal account I have to pay the full price and then it "appears" as though my pay pal account will be credited. The problem with that is that once the $29.95 is taken from my checking account, the credit is not put back in my checking account, but instead is now locked up in my pay pal account until such time as I spend that amount on another purchase.

When I clicked on to pay by credit card, only $29.95 is mentioned...nothing about 99cents.

So,99cents is the purchase price, but no matter what link I have used, 99cents is not mentioned...only in the press releases.

Because of all the ambiguity,I will sit this one out or maybe try the free version.

Hopefully, someone will respond to my post and give clear cut instructions as to how to make this purchase using either pay pal or one of the various credit cards.

by keroffs on Thu, 01/28/2010 - 11:10  (#42264)

I am not sure I understand your post.

It is Thursday, January 28, 2010, 6AM EST as I type this and it was Thursday, January 28, 2010, 1AM EST when you typed your comment.

The special starts on Friday January 29, 2010 12AM EST - or midnight tonight.

So the special is not applicable yet.

17 hours and 48 minutes until the deal as of now - timer and more info here
http://www.winpatrol.com/99cents.html

No coupon according to that page - just a $0.99 price.

by Anonymous on Fri, 01/29/2010 - 16:19  (#42353)

I apologize, for whatever the reason(cranial overload or?)you are 100% correct. I tried to access too early! So, everything I posted does not apply.

However, shortly after 12midnight east coast time I did purchase using pay pal and installed. Everything went smoothly and the software is not conflicting with any of the other security software I'm using and is working well.

As I am "financially challenged"(poor)I would not have been able to make this purchase. So, many thanks and I hope it all works out for you and your company as well.

by MidnightCowboy on Thu, 01/28/2010 - 11:41  (#42265)

Seems I need to get a clock and a calendar too. Thanks keroffs.

by MidnightCowboy on Thu, 01/28/2010 - 09:25  (#42262)

I've emailed the program author and will post his response here if he doesn't do so himself first.

by MidnightCowboy on Thu, 01/28/2010 - 22:17  (#42297)

Now he has (thanks Bill) and it's up top :)

by Anonymous on Tue, 01/26/2010 - 23:48  (#42169)

which is it jan 29 per top of page or feb 29 as per link above?

by Anonymous on Wed, 01/27/2010 - 06:37  (#42191)

It's not a leap year.

by Anonymous on Tue, 01/26/2010 - 21:14  (#42160)

shucks, and I just bought it a couple of months ago.
Love the option of finding out details on a program when it tries to load.
This is a great bargain, and I'll be recommending to all my friends.

by Anonymous on Tue, 01/26/2010 - 16:09  (#42140)

Will we need to uninstall WP free before buying and upgrading?

by Anonymous on Tue, 01/26/2010 - 20:26  (#42153)

Hi Bill,
Thanks for the great offer. I hope you get more than 30 times the respondents to your experiment.
Do you have any plans to make the Family Pack available at your experimental price or equivalent? We have six PCs on our home network.

All the best for 2010 from sunny Australia. Keep up the good work.

by keroffs on Tue, 01/26/2010 - 16:13  (#42141)

No. You just enter your PLUS code in the free.

by Anonymous on Tue, 01/26/2010 - 15:15  (#42134)

by Anonymous on Tue, 01/26/2010 - 14:31  (#42130)

One of the very best free products out there. To get the plus program for less than a dollar is tremendous. Everything i read about Bill is just so positive. I would love to buy him beer, and thank him for keeping my computer so very safe this last 4 years. The latter may never happen. But, if you and Scottie are monitoring this feedback Bill, a massive thanks to you, and a woof to mans best friend.

Can anyone advise on the pros and cons of this Win Patrol Plus offer vs A-Squared anti-malware? Thanks.

by Anonymous on Tue, 01/26/2010 - 14:07  (#42124)

Hello, I have been using Mamutu. Have no complaints, but my license is only to 8/2010. Not sure if winpatrol is a better choice or not? What do my knowledgeable Gizpals think?

Thanks.

by Anonymous on Tue, 01/26/2010 - 04:39  (#42081)

For those of us who have already purchased WinPatrol, this offer does not do a whole lot. Thanks, Bill...

by Anonymous on Tue, 01/26/2010 - 15:11  (#42133)

I agree, a pointless comment...not seeing anything constructive in it at all. If it works well and you like it, buy a copy for someone else and share the love.

by MidnightCowboy on Tue, 01/26/2010 - 18:46  (#42149)

Exactly, or maybe ask someone on Haiti what they could spend the difference on right now?

by Anonymous on Tue, 01/26/2010 - 11:31  (#42111)

Not a nice comment.
It's called a special offer....

by Anonymous on Tue, 01/26/2010 - 03:58  (#42079)

For sure I'll do it and this part of the offer can't be beat!

"Upgrades by check must be postmarked by February 30th."

How did he know about the planned leap-leap year in 2024?

But seriously, I have been using the free product for a long time and it gets an A++ rating from me. An the support has been great.

by Anonymous on Tue, 01/26/2010 - 02:49  (#42070)

Well....Are we to assume this will be paid with our credit cards? May be that will be stated this Friday pm on the website...Anyway Thanks Bill for the offer and a great program!!

by DLC50 on Tue, 01/26/2010 - 03:45  (#42078)

No actually you have a few different options for payment. Check out this page it explains your different options. http://www.winpatrol.com/99cents.html
