Online Armor firewall 3.0 free May 26 ONLY on Give Away Of The Day (GOTD)
Normally, I wouldn't recommend a security product as a GAOTD offer given the GOTD restrictions for no updates. However, today's giveaway of the full edition of Online Armor firewall (1-year license) makes for a clear exception to the rule.
The freeware version of Online Armor is well reviewed by Rizar on the Best Free Firewall page. Today's giveaway is the full version of Online Armor, which was highly recommended to me by security expert and Best Free HIPS reviewer, MidnightCowboy.
From the developer's description:
Online Armor - is a Personal Firewall to protect your money, identity and your Data. Whether you’re browsing, Transacting or receiving Email; Online Armor can protect you. This award winning software is easy to use right of the box.
The powerful “HIPS” functions, which is designed to stop all unrecognized programs from running on your computer, makes it possible to protect yourself against new threats and attacks.
In standard mode, most decisions are made completely automatically based on Online Armor’s whitelist - users never need answer a complex firewall prompt again.
Online Armor protects your passwords and private information from being stolen by blocking keyloggers as they try to activate. Online Armors behaviour detection ensures that even specially created or new keyloggers are detected and prevented.
Changing firewall has important implications for your system. Today's time-limited offer from GOTD will probably best suit users with some computer experience who are on the look out for a powerful, alternative firewall solution for their PC(s), either with or without the HIPS options activated (for some guidance on this topic see MidnightCowboy's article entitled HIPS Explained).

YOUR EMAIL DELIVERY SYSTEM IS FLAWED. YOU GAVE ME THE MESSAGE ONE DAY LATE.
Yes, we apologise. There is a known issue with the automatic email delivery service. Unfortunately, no alternative system is available to us at present.
In the meantime, you would probably be better off subscribing to the Hot Finds RSS feed.
Yeah its ok. These things happen. I'm sorry for the capitals. It was a mistake. On hindsight it made me look much more angry than I really was. Looking forward to other hot finds.
I found this really late, and just downloaded it and followed the directions in the 'read me' file. I only hope the license comes in time for it to work. I will keep my fingers crossed. According to the site, I had one hour and 58 minutes to download the free version, but no word on if I could still get the license in time to use it. Keeping my fingers crossed. This will teach me to check my reader for this site more frequently, so I don't lose out on the deals. Thanks so much.
Carolina de Witte
If the key didn't come through in time, Carolina, I'd try contacting their forum (see link below).
Good luck anyway
Bob
I'm off to grab some essential shut eye. Maybe somebody else (more courteous and certainly more knowledgeable than me - hello MC and Rizar, for example) can field any further queries.
Several potential issues are covered below.
For other issues not covered in the comments from the Developer (TallEmu) on the GOTD download page, I suggest contacting their forum at http://support.tallemu.com/vbforum/index.php
Bye from the messenger

You've done a wonderful job here, Bob, and shown impeccable courtesy. We know the offer is made in good faith, and you've been great at hanging around and helping visitors and users. Outstanding!
Thanks Peter - have to fly
I have been using the free version for some time now and have found it to be nothing but reliable. With it, and eset nod32 + using Returnil, I do not see the need to upgrqade to the full version of online armor...the free version is that good. That's my 2 cents. btw, I also do a manual scan once a week using malwarebytes, and superantispyware...ciao.
You'll find a feature comparison here: http://www.tallemu.com/comparisons.html
Just downloaded, obtained the key, and installed in about five minutes. Just follow the directions in the readme.txt and it works.
It's nice to see that this still supports Windows 2000. Zonealarm and Comodo dropped support for Windows 2000 many versions ago.
Thank you for posting. I should perhaps have included this sort of information in the original article.
On the GOTD download page I read:
"Windows 2000, Windows XP & Windows Vista;
512 MB RAM; 20 MB hard disk space; Internet access; Download Size: 10 mb;
Note: Product does not currently support the following operating systems: Windows XP 64, Windows Vista 64, Windows 98/Me"
But on the Online Armor site, it seems to say:
"Minimum requirements: The release version of Online Armor version 3.5 runs on Windows XP/Vista (32bit)"
I suppose it's reasonable to trust the info on GAOTD today.
i couldn't get the free firewall, the code didn't work. it looks like they want you to pay for 1 year to get the second one for free.
it didn't work....
My code was accepted a few hours ago--yet no confirmation email reply--odd since we only have till 1159pm tonight to install it --right???
Teresa
Depends where you are Teresa... Until midnight US West Coast time (eg San Fransisco).
That corresponds to 8 am in the UK and 9 am in Paris, Rome etc etc
you can check for yourself at http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html
I don't think there's any trick going on here. My advice: be patient (if you have the time) - the servers are probably busy.
For any other practical feedback, please see the post below
Thanks
bob
I've just gone through all the hoops and got my license code without any problem. I found I had to press a few different buttons on the OnlineArmor site pages. Took me a moment to work out which button(s) to press next... But it went OK in the end.
Hello - This is in reply to people who have been experiencing OnlineArmor registration issues.
I have to refer you to the comments on the GOTD site (we're just the messengers here). Judging by the comments, you're not the only ones with these issues. However, I think you'll find that the issues are just temporary and will be sorted out by the Online Armor (TallEmu) team, who have been extremely forthcoming all day.
Here's comment #166 which contains the contact information I think you need:
"Support while I sleep….
"Hi Guys, if you have more questions about Online Armor, you can post them over at the Tall Emu support forums:
http://support.tallemu.com/vbforum/index.php
"Adrian (our US-based support manager) will be awake soon, and you can always find some friendly Online Armor users to help at any time of day."

I tried 4 times but it would not accept the "promo code"!
domofgi[at]yahoo.com
please see reply above - bob
I TRIED TWICE BUT AT THE CHECKOUT PROMO CODE DID NOT APPLY...!!!
please see reply above - bob
I think it may be helpful to post here the content of the README text file contained in the zip folder.
If you have have concerns about the requirement to provide an email address in order to register, I think it's worth remembering that we're dealing with a highly respected company:

Info from the developer (comment #43 over on the GOTD page):
The server is under heavy load at the moment. I can see that the keys are getting generated and sent as I am cc’d on every email.
You don’t need to activate the software today for this to work (though, I hope you will) - you just need to claim the key.

According to the screenshot this is for Online Armour 3.0.0.190 Free version and does not state that it is the full version. The current full and free versions are now at 3.5.0.14 so is the offer all that it is claimed to be?
Despite that it is a great firewall. Check it on the Matousec site, it rates at very good. I did use the free version and was very impressed, but now use the latest version of Comodo Internet Security.
http://www.matousec.com/projects/proactive-security-challenge/results.ph...
I stand corrected, my apologies. I have downloaded, activated and installed it. It is the full version of 3.5.0.14 but the time limit is for 363 days. I'll give it a try.
I recieved 364 days with mine.
That's fine. Thank you for posting - Bob
Yes, Online Armor also won Scott Finnie's ComputerWorld prize for top firewall of 2008. This article gives the details: http://blog.scotsnewsletter.com/2008/03/24/the-best-firewall-software-of...
I'm not too sure about the numbering, but I'm pretty sure today's giveaway gives you a 1-year license for the full version of Online Armor.
According to GOTD, "The program is available for $39.95 [ie the current price of the full version], but it will be free for our visitors as a time-limited offer."
The developer is providing exceptionally helpful online support in the GOTD comments.
Here's one of Mike Nash's responses to a licensing query from a GAOTD visitor:
"We worked really hard with the giveaway guys to make this simple, but the issue is that our activation model allows users to reset their own licence keys, for example to move from machine to machine.
"In order to facilitate this - users do require an individual key - otherwise you’d be stuck on one machine. This is a full version product, so it’s precisely the same as if you had purchased from our site - which meant we had no real choice than to do it this way.
"The other alternative is that we could have embedded keys in the installer - but that way people would have to rememeber or write down their key. On balance, we decided that would be too inconvenient - the simplest approach will be to use the cart."
