Free Version of Commercial Video Converter

Clone2go Free Video Converter is a free video converter program for converting video files in various formats. The supporting input formats include WMV, FLV, MPEG-4, MPG, RM, RMVB, AVI, 3GP, etc. The output formats include MP4, AVI, WMV, FLV, etc.

This program is a feature reduced version of the $29.95 Clone2go Video Converter Professional.  Notable features missing include audio extraction and support for various media players and mobile phones.  A comparison list of features in the free and paid versions can be found here:

A useful feature of Clone2go Free is the batch file conversion which takes just a few simple steps. Other features include the ability to download FLV videos from YouTube.com or Google Video and convert FLV to other formats, customizable output video frame size and video file splitting

Moderators notes:

This item is a heavily edited version of an article submitted by the vendor.

I downloaded and installed the program on an XP test PC and according to AntiVir the product is clean.

The program is easy to use and I managed to download a YouTube video by dropping and dragging from Firefox to Clone2Go without reading any instructions.  Similarly I managed to convert the downloaded file to AVI format and save it to my hard drive just by clicking what seemed to be the appropriate buttons.  Conversion speed was good as was quality.

All up it works as advertised and apart from a nag screen trying to sell you the Pro version and the stated feature limitations I see few downsides.  Yes, there are unrestricted freeware media conversion programs reviewed here on Gizmo's Freeware that have similar functionality with greater file format flexibility but Clone2Go Free is more polished and easier to use than most.

The description reads that it doesn't include Audio output. What good is a video without audio?

Great article.

Personally, between Format Factory and Super, I have all the media conversion tools I need.

Its always good to have more options though.

try this one:

http://www.pazera-software.com/products/vcsuite/

it has included all ways of conversion and is light, easy to use and totally freeware

I'm using Format Factory myself right now and I am fine with it. Although I did just look at the list of differences between free and pro for this one, and was pleasantly surprised...I can live without the Pro features. Might give this one a whirl.

Format Factory is IMHO the best and easiest converter going. Why download this and get annoying nag screens from a commercial product when there is a great freeware alternative that doesn't give such hassles, is my thinking.

I have to disagree, I tried FF and didn't like it much, perhaps it suites beginners more, personally I prefer MediaCoder, it tends to be buggy sometimes but it's the only application that has ALL the features that I need but it's not for the faint-hearted ;)

Agreed!

Format Factory is simple, fast and powerful! It supports almost all the formats we know in market. If any commercial software cannot provide significant advance features than Format Factory, then it's worthless even to give a try.

Duh, Format Factory includes ads so it's a case of choose your poison.

It has an ad bar, granted. But I never even give it a look. But there are no annoying nag screens. And it's really simple to use. I reckon it's a winner.

I've tried both Format Factory and Super and neither is intuitive to use. Free is good though so I shouldn't complain

I found Format Factory extremely simple to use.
Things are laid out very clearly for me.

Although you do have to go looking around in it to find all of its features.
