Free Screen Recorder

BB FlashBack Express lets you record your screen, sound and webcam for free in its default fbr format. Immediately after recording, you can play back the file with its player that comes together with the recorder as a package.

The player is nicely designed in that you can jump from one frame to another or just skip to a certain time spot to review your recorded file.

If you don't like to keep the recorded file in fbr format, the player does allow you to export it into more common swf or avi format easily.

Most basic features, such as setting frames per second, optional sound record with configurable source and format, selectable area you want to record, etc., are available to this free Express Edition and sufficient for use by most average users, though the paid-for Standard and Pro Editions are sweetened with more advanced features such as annotation and editing.

Gizmo,
Plse ignore all the gripes. I'm more than happy to try out for myself any new finds that interest me. Keep up the excellent work :)

Thanks

Tried out the software and I'm not digging it. When I try and record a video of gameplay the mouse response is horrible. I'll just stick with with Extra Screen Capture Free.

CamStudio appears to be easier to use and you can record directly to avi with no "export to avi" required and is free and is #2 on the best screen recorder list. With CamStudio you simply "draw" the region you wish to record and hit record [when a region is recorded]. This new find did a good job but on first blush does not appear to be better than other options already on file as best screen recorders.

Finally a free recorder that captures webcam and exports to avi! Thanks for the tip. Tested quickly and works very well.

In less than a half day I downloaded, installed and created my first movie. I am using it to create 1 to 2 minute videos for my web site to illustrate my PowerPoint teaching slides. I teach plumbing code. With this program I can capture my tables and illustrations with PPT moving arrows, all the other PPT animations - etc. I tried to do this with several "capture" programs over the past year with no success. And I lost a lot of time on the others. To sum up, quick install; learning curve is unstressful; exporting the finished products in Flash; the same program with more power available should I need it (for a fee); and this one is free. So far I see no downside! I want to know more about this software company (BlueBerry).

hello,
how does this free screen session recorder stack-up against the picks in the "best freeware screen recorders" section, comparatively speaking. i noticed that the person submitting this article was not the same person who moderates the fore(?) mentioned category. just trying to find a mean to start at or go by

thanks'
michael

Thanks Michael, you have got it right. I submitted this article which is a hot-find item and only deals with one product.

You might note that this product has been recommended in the Comments section of Best Free Screen Session Recorder. We would need to give our volunteer editors some time to compare a newly recommended product with other products and give their ratings accordingly in the articles.

Why on earth would you send out a "hot find" unless is was BETTER than the free options already reviewed? Really starts to look like SPAM. What makes it a "hot find" if it is not better than the already rated free choices. Is it? Why bother to mention it at all. And for those of you "commenting"...if you use it and it IS better than one of the other choices, you need to point that out.

Dear Anonymous,

Thank you for your constructive criticism. ♥
I was, however, bothered by your tone.
It really starts to look like my wife PAM
who sometimes asks me to do everything for her and misses the thrill of the research.
She often reminds me: "If you don't happen to like me, simply pass me by!" ;-)

At the first paragraph of the Hot Finds section, we have pointed out that "Here you'll find recent software finds ... discovered by our editors and site visitors. Items listed are not necessarily recommendations but rather products you might like to check out."

Personally I find this product valuable, interesting and workable, so you might also want to check it out in this recent software find.

Is this product better than other products mentioned in a review article? I'm sorry this will not be covered by the Hot Finds section, but I can share with you that some items listed in the Hot Finds section stand a good chance for a subsequent review by our volunteer editors in their respective Best Free articles.

I hope this answers your question.

What we try to do is to offer the kind of stuff folks want to see based on the collective feedback received. Yesterday alone there were 51,000 visitors to the site so it's impossible to cater for individual preferences. Inevitably this will lead to some 'blanket choice' situations where maybe an item released is in conflict with something else. It's also an automatic process for everything published as a Hot Find to be included in the feed. For a community site with a million a month volume this is unavoidable, but everyone has the choice to un-subscribe if they are unhappy with the service.

by Anupam on Fri, 02/26/2010 - 14:10  (#44545)

If you are so bothered by the hot finds, then please unsubscribe. Everything will not be catered for any individual, or group of individuals. If you don't like it, or cannot appreciate a contribution, then you are free to unsubscribe.

hello and thanks for the speedy reply,
i didn't see the reply you spoke of the first time. i wouldn't have put much stock (if any) in a reply from someone named anon. anyway. since the mod for that category obviously has a life (must be nice) away from Mr. Richards site, in your esteemed opinion how does this measure up to cam or wink. (if you know by chance)

thanks again,
michael

btw - i'll leave you alone after this, promise.

by Jojoyee on Thu, 02/25/2010 - 10:01  (#44456)

You're welcome. I have not tried out Wink and CamStudio thoroughly so honestly I can't give a fair comment on them. The main purpose of this hot-find is to highlight to our visitors that a newly found freeware product is available. And as having mentioned in the Hot Finds section, "items listed [in that section] are not necessarily recommendations but rather products you might like to check out."
