Free Program Protects You From Key Loggers

Add an extra layer of protection to your computer using KeyScrambler.

Key loggers are a particularly insidious form of malware.
They sit between your keyboard and your computer, quietly recording everything that your keyboard does and sending the information off to be used by others. They can capture financial information, passwords, and other personal information you really don't want anyone else to have.
I ran across Key Scrambler about a month ago and have been using it ever since. It scrambles your keystrokes so what is sent over the internet doesn't match what you typed.

Key Scrambler comes in three versions, Personal (free), Premium and Pro. The free version protects Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Flock.
The free version can be downloaded from the main page, but is easier to find the link here:
KeyScrambler Download
Scroll down to the bottom of the comparison chart to get to the download button for each version.

Can Keyscrambler Free be force installed to work with Pale Moon browser? I thought it would be compatible as it is a derivative of FF....If not is there an equivalent for Pale Moon?

by rhiannon on 14. July 2011 - 16:34  (75484)

Have you tried installing it on Pale Moon?
If it won't install then I would have a look at the Nightly Tester Tools.

It can force add-on compatibility, but I would backup your profile before doing anything.
I use MozBackup: http://mozbackup.org/

I haven't used Pale Moon for a while now, but if I remember correctly it uses the default Firefox profile.

Hi Rhiannon-Yes I tried but it is simply not recognized. Strange, huh?I will try the app you recommended. Thanks

by rhiannon on 15. July 2011 - 0:01  (75509)

Huh. It could be a version conflict, where the browser and the add-on aren't compatible yet. It might be that Key Scrambler isn't compatible with the Firefox version you have - Mozilla has been pushing versions out the door pretty fast, it can take the developers some time to get everything updated.
I hope the Nightly Tester Tools work out.

by Beatrice (not verified) on 15. July 2011 - 3:06  (75515)

Rhiannon, you mentioned it may not work with the Firefox version I am using....Remember I am actually using PaleMoon, not FF.Would this still apply as I believe my PM version is 5.0 and this was based on a prior version of FF. Thank You

Hi Beatrice,
I did some checking, and Pale Moon no longer shares the Firefox Profile folder, so that's probably not it.
I did find some information about KeyScrambler and Pale Moon on the Pale Moon Troubleshooting site.
Here's what they say about it:

"KeyScrambler doesn't work with Pale Moon

Upgrade KeyScrambler to 2.7.0.0 or later to fix errors with Pale Moon. Previous versions of KeyScrambler do not support this browser.

If you still run into problems with "ksClass not defined" upon startup after upgrading, a possible workaround is to rename palemoon.exe to firefox.exe - KeyScrambler's script apparently does a "hard" check on the executable filename and throws an error if it is anything but "firefox.exe" - Something to be fixed by the people releasing KeyScrambler."

That might be the problem; here's the link to the Pale Moon Troubleshooting page:
Pale Moon - Troubleshooting

I hope that helps. :)

This was asked before but never answered...How does this compare to Zemana antilogger? Can or should they be used together? Is one superior? Thanks

by Anonymous on 24. January 2010 - 23:03  (41967)

probably cause its not free!

by rhiannon on 25. January 2010 - 2:46  (41990)

That would do it. = )

by rhiannon on 24. January 2010 - 22:39  (41964)

I haven't used Zemana so I don't know how they compare - if you ask in the site forum I'm sure someone will know.

by Anonymous on 13. November 2009 - 2:28  (36523)

maybe im not seeing it or something but shouldnt there be an best free anti-keyloggers section on here somewhere?

by rhiannon on 24. January 2010 - 22:50  (41965)

That's an excellent idea, if you'd like to become a reviewer and create that category we'd be delighted. Gizmo's Freeware is run by a community of volunteers who donate time and talent.

Everyone who helps out has lives, school, families, kids, and other sorts of obligations (sleeping is good ). We do the best we can and carry as much as we can on an individual basis. Except Gizmo, he spends 60+ hours a week on the site, more time than anyone else I know of.

This particular area of the site doesn't contain any categories that compare programs.

You might look at these categories for more information:

Probably the Best Free Security List in the World

Best Free Onscreen Keyboard

Best Free Browser Protection Utility

Used this software for a cpl of yrs, and as stated, did not slow down my computer. Sometimes, when you type it will forget to unscramble what you have typed, but just back spacing to remove and then retype solves that lil issue.

One warning is within the last 2 yrs,(I can't prove it)my keyboard driver became corrupted and rendered useless and I ended up having to do a full restore. This last time, it happened after I updated firefox to version 3.52 and keyscrambler started sending me messages telling me to update keyscrambler, but I was using the latest version of it. Finally out of desparation, I elected to remove keyscrambler and the end result was corrupted keyboard driver!

Would I use it again? Yes, but only in virtual which is what I do now using BlueGem Security. I just consider these kinds of software too risky to install and use any other way. Live and learn.

Well, I have to say it doesn't work properly, I have to type a few times password before sites recognize and let me log in, apparently, the sites think it is wrong password. I try facebook and my bank account. It is same result. However, I eventually logged in, but don't know why? So I disable it.

Do you have the Overlay Window activated? That should show you what is going on.

There should be an icon in the system notification tray, next to the clock in the bottom right of your screen. There are probably other icons in there as well, but the one for Key Logger is a stylized k with a green back ground. Hover your mouse over the icon and use the button on the right side of your mouse to click on the icon. A menu should pop up.
Key Scrambler On, Key Scrambler Off, New Version, and Options.
Click on Options. A menu will pop up. There are three tabs at the top, General, Display, and About.
Clicking on the Display tab will bring up the menu with the overlay options.

How does this compare to Zemana Antilogger?

by Jakeman on 3. September 2009 - 5:48  (32073)

Been using this for a couple of years, as part of this site's (Gizmo's) philosophy of the layered approach to security, and each version has gotten more user friendly, especially with regards to ease of install/updating. Highly recommended for its functionality, simplicity, and omnipresence whenever the keyboard is used. Don't know how "resource-friendly" it is except to say that it's never seemed to slow down or interfere with either Firefox or IE (doesn't yet work with Chrome, at least not the Personal/Free edition, as Riannon has mentioned). And to paraphrase the Amex slogan, no laptop owner should leave home without it...

Does this prevent spying eyes from tracking your internet usage?

by rhiannon on 2. September 2009 - 19:23  (32056)

It scrambles anything you type on your keyboard that gets sent over the internet. Passwords, forms, etc.
The free version scrambles key strokes in three browsers: Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Flock.

by Anonymous on 2. September 2009 - 12:51  (32048)

It doesn't work with other browsers, unfortunately, and I prefer Iron and sometimes K-Meleon, but I do banking with Firefox or even Interval Exploder to get protection with Keyscrambler. I've been using it for a year or two so I hope it works. No-one has stolen all my money but neither have I heard a tree fall in a forest on the other side of the globe. Neither is proof.
I believe everyone should use Keyscrambler, at least where a password is involved. There is no downside I know of.

If you use Kmeleon, you can use this macro (MyPlanetsoft Antikeylogger):
http://necb.bizhat.com/kmeleon/kmantilog.7z

unzip it in kmeleon folder, then open it and under tools you should have anti-logger.

Look here: http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/forum/read.php?2,86042,91158#msg-91158

The premium version works with other browsers, most email programs and some others. The Pro version works with more applications.

I'm no security expert or testing service, but I'm willing to rely on good sources that say it works.

by Anonymous on 2. September 2009 - 1:38  (32012)

I have been using this for several months and I love it. When in use, a little box appears on the corner of your monitor telling you what the scrambled words and numbers are.

Ditto. And I also use it with Firefox and no problems. A really good little program. Highly recommended.
