Free Online Service Creates "Pack Shots"

Remember when software used to come in boxes?  Nowdays it comes as a download, though most web sites and brochures still include "box shots", despite the fact that those boxes don't actually exist.  Clearly it's all mocked up in Photoshop or similar.

If you need a "box shot" for your web site, perhaps because you have a software product that you sell, then you don't actually need to go to the effort of loading up Photoshop.  There's a handy web site at www.3d-pack.com that'll do the job for you.  Just find some photos on your PC to use for the front and sides of the shot, upload them to the site, and in a couple of seconds you'll have a picture of your box ready for download in JPG, GIF or PNG format.

As well as creating box shots, the site can also produce images of hardback books and, as shown below, CDs and DVDs.  Very handy if you sell software or e-books online and you're looking for a suitable image to use as an illustration.

My thanks to "Holly" (Dec '93 - 26th Feb '08) for inspiring the above picture.

This sounds great for those "gift" programs that you put on a CD for other people. Thanks.
