Free, Incredibly Easy Screenshots

Update: As of August 23 2009 the site doesn't seem to be functioning. I've checked it several times in the last week and it appears not to be working.
Best bet is to check out the Best Free Screen Capture Utility category for other recommendations.

Perfect for anyone who doesn't need to create a lot of screen shots, with nothing to download or install

Super Screen shot is a website where you type in the address of a website and get a screenshot back. Simple. Easy.
Screenshots are produced in your choice of either .jpg or .png files, ready to be used.
The .jpg file size is smaller, and the .png is better quality.
Screenshots can be produced as a full page or just the top of the screen, with several sizes to choose from.
One thing I like about this site is that it produces screenshots that you can see. Some programs I've tried create a screenshot, but its the size of a thumbnail.
All the websites I tested came out fine, including complex websites.

The screenshots can take up to a minute to produce, there's a little timer that ticks off the seconds until its done. The sites I tested ranged from 19 seconds to almost a minute.

The site has a range of Google text ads running down the left hand side of the page. No flash or graphic ads.
The site is great for those of us who don't need to create many screenshots but could get tiresome if you needed many.

Super Screenshot

I find that having Picasa active and using the Shift+Pr Sc handy as I can grab, save and then edit a series of shots later. It grabs the whole screen displayed on your monitor so you will need to crop the part you want later in Picasa but it is Quick & Easy! I use it for documentation often because it puts them in a known location and takes care of house keeping when I just want to grab a series of shots without messing with starting another application, saving, file naming, and saved file location for a number of shots. Just remember to use the best screen resolution for your monitor as it will influence the captured screen quality or DPI when printed or displayed.

I use LightScreen Portable from http://portableapps.com from my flash drive and it works great. It has very useful features like only choosing an area instead of the whole screen.

Been looking for a program like this for this site http://www.supressedminds.com thinking about buying. Anybody know a program for resizing pictures?

by Chilli on 13. May 2009 - 23:04  (21522)

Hmmm, couldn't this website get in trouble somehow legally.

I mean it shows the public every screenshot that was taken. So if someone for example did a screenshot of their bank records or something with personal information and did not think that a copy would be seen by everyone (I know they have to be an idiot to do that - but there is always one), then there could be potential issues....

Faststone version 5.3 (last freeware version) is what I use all the time. I have handed it out to friends and they all love it. This site is a nice idea, but not something I would use unless I was in an Internet cafe or something and needed a screenshot, but why I would need a screenshot in an internet cafe, I would never know.

More Rocket science?

Start the free program called Picasa [version 3 or later]from Google.

When ever you key Shift + PrtSC [print screen] a *.jpg snapshot of your display is created in Picasa.

Enjoy - End transmission!

Great tip!

There are some Firefox Extensions also, which do a decent job for takeing screenshots.
But my all time favorite is SnagIt. It's simply great.

Is Snagit freeware?

by rhiannon on 7. May 2009 - 21:49  (21208)

No, Snagit isn't freeware - you may be able to find some older versions that are free for download but usually the current version has to be paid for.

yes, 7.2.5 is the last newest free version of SnagIt! BUT, it DOES NOT work with Vista! mario

When taking a screen shot with a typical screen shot program and the website is wider or taller then your application window, you have to combine these images, and if you want it to look good doing this with the accuracy of a pixel is a pain.

by Anonymous on 8. April 2009 - 12:14  (19525)

I don't get it. What is wrong with the Print Screen (or Alt-Print Screen) button on your keyboard followed by Paste in your favourite picture editing software?

by rhiannon on 8. April 2009 - 18:42  (19540)

Not a thing wrong with Print Screen. It works great.

Personally, I don't often need to work with images on my system - most of them tend to be used in email or other web applications.
I like to bypass the step of opening an image editor, saving the image, and then having to paste the image into another application.
I drag and drop images, and often a program will generate a name and/or url for the image.

I use diigo alot, and I can highlight whatever I want on a page and it sends it to diigo along with the url it came from, and includes any comments or notes I've added.
If I need to edit an image, I use one of the online image editors. Usually Picknik because its so easy and I'm used to it.
Picknik in turn can send the image to any number of places such as flickr or photobucket.

There are some outstanding screenshot capture programs available, reviewed here:
http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-screen-capture-utility.htm
If you need to create as many screen shots as the site editors here do, you need one that works fast, easy, well.

Everyone works a different way, with radically different tools, depending on what you do.
The more options there are, the bigger the chance that someone will find something that is just right for them.
If Print Screen is what you like to use, then its the best for you, and a lot of other people as well.

with nothing to download or install?

Try this bookmarklet, even better as no typing required!

javascript:void(window.open('http://kwout.com/grab?address='+document.location.href));
