77 Places For Free ePub Books Online For Nook, iPad, Kobo, iBook Sony eReader etc
Introduction
This is a listing of 78 sites that offer all their ebooks for free download in ePub format. In particular, this is a source for those who have a Nook, iPad, Kobo or several other readers and phones. About the only device that does not support ePub is Amazon's Kindle and there is a Free Books for Kindle page here at Gizmo's. You do not have to have a device to read these books as there is a Nook application and other readers that may be used for your computer and other devices.
A comprehensive alphabetical listing of free books for reading or listening can be found on these pages:
For a complete listing of the free ebook pages here at Gizmo's, see
There will be other ePub novels at sites listed there, but those sites do not offer all their books in ePub format. All of the sites listed here offer all of their books in ePub format.
This listing does not include audio books. Generally, all of the free audiobooks offered within the pages above will work with your device.
Also, if you just came here looking for free ebooks, I would suggest that you take a look at the rest of the site. The free ebooks listings are a small part of the great information available here. This site is mainly for review of free softwares. Each of the reviewers is a volunteer and has a personal interest in their software category, so you will get an unbiased review from an enthusiast of that software type. In almost all cases, a free software can do the task of any paid software just as well, if not better.

Libraries
During my searches online, many of the results returned were for local libraries offereing free ePub ebooks. Many of these offered a direct sync to devices (no visit to the library necessary). You will have to have a valid library card to use these services. This is a resource that may well be worth checking out.
Overdrive is the site to use to access your library online for free ePub ebooks. It will help you find a branch near you that has this feature. You must have a valid library card and PIN. If you are using a device, then you must be on a wi-fi and not the 3G network.
Groovypost has a guide on using Overdrive to check out books at your local library which looks to be very useful.
Conclusion
Hopefully this listing will help you in easily finding free ebooks that you are interested in for your reader device or application. If you have any suggestions as to additional sites, techniques or how to make this guide clearer, please post in the comments section below.

The link to "The Plough" is no longer http://www.plough.com/ebooks/epub/index.html but http://www.plough.com/en/ebooks
Thanks. The old link was dead.
A slight change on the new link from your post. I set the filter to ePub only.
http://www.plough.com/en/ebooks?topic=&type=epub&sort=&start=#search-form
Thanks again.

Thanks for the wonderful list. I think it might be useful to add that ProjectGutenberg has a free DVD available for download that contains 29,500 Ebooks. This is a substantial proportion of their entire range, and it's convenient to be able to download it in one go. The link is:
www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Gutenberg:The_CD_and_DVD_Project
That is a good one. I am checking out one of the smaller downloads (the 29,000 book download is 7.8GB) to see the formats offered. I will add in here and the Kindle book listing if appropriate (at least it will be added to the main listing of all free book sites)
A better choice might be the "Magic Catalog" offered at Free Kindle Books Org
http://freekindlebooks.org/MagicCatalog/magiccatalog.html
Although primarily a Kindle site, they do offer a catalog of 29,000 books in ePub download from Gutenberg. These are direct links to the download.
Thanks
Steve
Excuse this tagging post--to activate receiving notification emails for comments. I don't see a way to turn that on without making a post.
Thanks for posting such a great resource. However, ePubBud doesn't belong on this list. It may have some free books, but it has thousands of pirated books.
