Free Audio and Video Converter

A professional audio/video (AV) converter, iWisoft Free Video Converter, offers to users for free to convert AV files from one format to another suitable for playback on various digital devices.

iWisoft Free Video ConverterThis free program is ideally designed for ease of use with a clean user interface  just add a file, select an output profile and folder, click the Start button and the conversion begins right away for you.

Most popular AV input and output formats are supported. For output, you can choose common AV formats, or select a format suitable for playback on an MP3 or MP4 player, iPod, iPhone or any other digital devices listed in the menu from the program.

A default output profile does not suit your need? You can adjust it by selecting a suitable AV codec, bit rate, frame rate, video size, aspect ratio, audio channel, sample rate or volume level from a drop-down menu. Your setting can be saved as a user defined profile for subsequent uses.

What's more? Some basic editing functions, such as cropping, trimming, merging, adding watermark, capturing, etc., are included in the program, with a built-in player for a preview too.

Note from Gizmo: I've given this program a pretty thorough test by installing it in a VM under the watchful eye of Avira AntiVir, Prevx 3 and Comodo firewall. Actually installing a product is a much more powerful way of detecting malware than simply scanning a file though for safety, you need to do this in a VM or sandbox. Anyway, neither AntiVir or PrevX reported any problems and Comodo raised no alarms  As a result I'm confident in saying the malware detections reported by some users in the comments below were false positives. In other words you can install this program with confidence.

iWisoft Free Video Converter kept asking to download files that you could scan for virus, otherwise it would not work = suspicious in nature! I did not install it.

Well, as good as format factory is (I've been using it long time), it does have a problem when you try to convert and join more than a few files. Don't know what's the limit but joining 3 or 4 files is ok, joining 10 files, after hours of waiting, will only get you an error about it unable to find the file. Thought it's because of long file names and renamed them all to single letter, still the same. No problem with iWisoft. The joining is useful if you always download 11 parts art movie from YouTube. Also, for FLV to AVI conversion (at least, that I tried), iWisoft converts faster than FormatFactory. But it's easier to make custom settings in FormatFactory, especially when correcting aspect ratio.

Users should be aware that they have to register by sending a mail, to get the free key for the program.

I've checked out their privacy policy and it's better than most. There will soon be more of these programs around than there are folks to use 'em!

There are already many such programs available. When I was looking for multimedia converters sometime back, I came across a whole lot of video/audio converters. Some of them usable, some not. Even now, I keep coming across new ones, like this one.

I tested again the file through Jotti malware scan and virus total and the results were 20 out of 21 clean and virus total 40 out of 41 clean. In both cases it was virus buster that flagged this program, perhaps it is a false positive?

Format Factory is ALWAYS flagged as infected by ESET Smart Security!!!
I use format Factory to read the information of the video only, because motion is not fluent when converting low quality asf/wmv video to MP4. I prefer Any Video Converter which works perfectly in this situation.

Another vote for Format Factory, does everything I want it to do for the right price = FOC.

I gather this is superior to SUPER, at least?

Downloaded 1.2 Build 091127 December 1 morning. When the program starts, it launches my web browser displaying the iWisoft update page, so I guess the "Startup connecting to the internet removed" change is not working.

I don't mind if the program checks for updates, but why start up the browser and go to the site to tell me that everything is currently up-to-date? Let me know if it's not, not that it is.

I tried converting two FLV files to WMV. One conversion worked, the other shut down the program.

I do appreciate that such a powerful application has been made available at no cost.

Happens to me as well. Browser opens up to their update site whenever the program is launched. Sent them an email about the bug and an installation issue, hopefully they resolve the issues soon. The version prior to the one you use is good for now. Just add their site to the hosts file if you don't want the phoning home feature when the program is started.

And how about someone invent some software that will allow me to copy a picture from my cell phone to my PC, without needing the software from the cell phone company? If this software can do it, more power to them!

get bluetooth. simple as shit. i dont even use my camera for ebay anymore. my lg env2 transfers easily to my dell laptop no wires needed. or software.

Phone to PC Image Transfer
What I normally do is send a text message with the photo attached, and address it to my e-mail address. That way it sends the actual original full rez image file unlike when addressed to a phone where it reduces and compresses the image to low screen rez.

Many image hosting services (like Flickr) now provide a free unique email address to send phone image messages to so they are instantly viewable or privately waiting for you, in full rez.

Another option might be to try a Bluetooth wireless transfer if you have or are willing to buy a Bluetooth adapter for your computer and have Bluetooth on your phone. Though some phones only provide a Bluetooth connection for wireless headsets and/or modem-like data communication, and not file transfer.

Not found any problems with iwf converter, no malware, no spyware, runs great.

by OhZone on 26. November 2009 - 15:53  (37340)

I think I would be concerned that two separate spyware aps found two separate problems with this. hmmm....

No scanner, AV nor A/spyware can catch everything regardless of claims, promises, popularity or heuristic capabilities. No security application can be more 'perfect' than the human that created it, and of course no human is perfect. When it comes down to brass tacks, we ourselves are our best and final line of defense i.e. safe surfing habits.

Please give details... which spyware apps?

by Anonymous on 24. November 2009 - 19:21  (37234)

Excellent, but it should have an option to turn off automatic updates!

by Anonymous on 28. November 2009 - 7:53  (37452)

The automatic update has been removed from the latest version 1.2 build 091127.

by Anupam on 28. November 2009 - 8:10  (37454)

Where is the build available? The site still shows build of 9th November. Are you from the Iwisoft ? :P

by Anonymous on 28. November 2009 - 7:52  (37451)

The automatic update has been removed from the latest version 1.2 build 091127.

Thank you very much.

by Anupam on 1. December 2009 - 10:05  (37596)

Where is this update available?

by Anonymous on 1. December 2009 - 14:38  (37605)

On the download page LOL

by Anupam on 1. December 2009 - 17:53  (37624)

LOL. OK my bad. I asked in a wrong way :P. Now let me reframe it.

Where is the version 1.2 build 091127 ?

On the download page of the software, there is no such version. The version on the download page is 1.2.0 of Nov 9th. So where is this update that everyone is talking about? Am I missing something?

by Anonymous on 3. December 2009 - 9:57  (37757)

LOL again. Now let me reframe it, too.
Click the [ Download Site 1 ] or [ Download Site 2 ] link and you will get the latest version. Yes, the info is wrong (November 9th), but I've installed it and got 1.2 build 091127 and the changelog (after installation). If you are using Opera than install GetSize and you can know (by right click) size, modified date, ... of any file on the internet.
