by Anonymous on 12. June 2009 - 1:56  (23643)

Well first of all... I have had more than one bad problem with iolo. I purchased System Mechanic 7 & its a big flop. I tried several times to contact them through e-mails, & never got a reply... Then, I phoned them about the problem & was told by some "wetback" that I didnt know how to use the software even before I told him the problem. He didnt know what I was talking about (he just barely spoke english)... To this day, there crappy software is in my desk waiting on a new home (if I can think of someone that I dislike enough to give it to). Also this is a great site & very helpful...
Thanks Guys!

We'd like a copy, just to test.

by Anonymous on 30. June 2009 - 17:52  (24523)

No problem.... I will be glad to let you test it. Just leave some info to where I can send.

I tried this software last night just a ' i wonder if it will improve pc maintenance thing'. During the download Prevx 3.0 says the following;
ds_dm(1).exe has been installed in C directory. A medium risk malware it says. Therefore, i run MAM and SAS programs they find nothing. On Google and Prevx, i cannot find anything conclusive with regard to ds_dm(1).exe- It maybe a false positive on an over keen Prevx behalf, but it took a system restore on my behalf to get peace of mind. Has anybody else with more knowledge than a novice such as myself, crossed swords with the aforementioned?
Great site Gizmos.

by Anonymous on 8. June 2009 - 13:36  (23312)

If you do a search for Prevx on our forums, you will find that several people have found Prevx to give a lot of false positives. I suggest that this is the case since no one else has reported this problem and because your other manual scans found nothing.

Thanks for taking time to reply, much appreciated.
Great site Gizmos

Hi there!

Don't want to bother anybody but we have talked about this promotion 2 month ago.

Those DealNews guys never respect the original sources.
for-free-on-internet.com/2009/03/iolo-drivescrubber-system-shield-3-internet-security-and-antivirus-free-promos/

Normally Gizmo should not advertise someone using other's people work without giving the credit. No offense meant. Gizmo knows we respect him.
Maybe they did not take it from 4 Free but they still should be honest and credit their source.
Obviously not the case.

Sorry !

Marc - 4 Free team

by kendall on 29. May 2009 - 0:26  (22540)

Marc-I appreciate the post. I am the one (NOT Gizmo) who posted the original Hot Find here. I have/had no way of knowing that DealNews apparently "borrowed" or "stole" this information from your site. I'm curious how I should have known or could have known that?

Actually, I thought about posting the direct link to Iolo's site, but I wanted to credit DealNews with the "find" since that's where I found it.

My apologies if I posted something from DealNews that was borrowed from the 4 Free site. I had no way of knowing or realizing that you had posted it first.

by Anonymous on 29. May 2009 - 11:59  (22571)

Hi Kendall!

There is no need for apologies, of course. And I did not mean somebody did something wrong.

Of course you cannot verify the morality of every site and the original source of every find.

I have just taken the opportunity to inform you about the particular situation situation with DealNews. I was not claiming any "copyright infrigement" or something. After all it is just a public promotion and again: they could have taken it from any other site, not from 4 Free.

It is not about 4 Free but about a general situation which I believe we all should not encourage. They never credit ANY source.

I apologize if I was wrong to speak my mind.

Cheers!

Marc - 4 Free Team

by kendall on 29. May 2009 - 14:08  (22583)

Marc, you certainly were not wrong to speak your mind. To be honest, I did not see your earlier post about DealNews and I was not aware of the fact that they are not crediting sources. I certainly do not appreciate nor support companies or people who take credit without giving credit where credit is due.

I appreciate you bringing to my attention as I will certainly re-think posting anything else from them.

(Now, to go check out 4 Free.....)

I agree with everybody who says the site is horrible. There is no way to download without going through tens of registration, and I am not sure that if I do this burdensome tasks I still will be able to download, and use the software. NO THANKS.

by christoph on 28. May 2009 - 20:55  (22532)

Thanks very much for this program, Kendall. It is also very easy to download. For a simple registration and an email address, you receive a 1-years-license-key and a download link for a fine piece of software. In my view this is a fair deal, and I wouldn't know how it can become any easier as it is rather a 'freebie' than freeware.

Your post is not factual. You have to enter basic information such as name, address, phone number, and email address. That's it! How is that "tens of registration"?!

Did you actually try it? It's burdensome to enter in some basic information and hit send?! Then, wait for an email with your license key?!

Folks, please see for yourselves. Actually try it and see how difficult it is. See the last post of someone who tried it and said he made a mistake. At least he went through the process to verify for himself.... For gosh sakes, a company is giving away a one year free license; and you don't want to have to enter basic information and wait for an email?!

by Anonymous on 28. May 2009 - 8:56  (22484)

Seems like there are far easier ways to wipe your hard drive or free space than jumping through these hoops, no? In other words, why would someone do this?

by raffa on 27. May 2009 - 14:53  (22453)

Yeah its free, just go throught the motions of filling out the form and.... done

by Anonymous on 27. May 2009 - 4:54  (22426)

After filling out the form an commercial email sent to me for 50% discount. No way to download the Drive Scrubber. Waste of time.

by kendall on 27. May 2009 - 13:03  (22448)

I went through the entire process just to ensure that it was legit. It is. You should have received an email that looked like the following:

Dear Kendall,

Thank you for your order! This message contains important licensing and billing details, as well as valuable information to help you get the most out of your iolo product(s).

Special gift idea: Send System Mechanic to someone you know for only $19.95! >> Click here for details. (limited time offer)

Because we value your business, we’re offering you a Loyal Customer Discount of 50% off your next purchase of any iolo technologies product. To receive a discount, simply apply the following coupon code the next time you enter the iolo cart.

Loyal Customer Coupon Code: xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Software Licensing Information

(If you are renewing or extending an existing subscription, you do not need to re-enter your licensing information.)

DriveScrubber - 1 year subscription
- Activation Key: xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxxxxxxx
>> Help me enter this information correctly

Evaluation versions become full iolo products when you enter a license. Executable downloads of iolo software are available on our Downloads page.
>> Go to the iolo Downloads page

Please note the very last line is a link to their download page. (It doesn't show up as a link here because of my lack of knowledge of how to code it in html, but it is a link in the email.)

All you have to do now is go to their download page, download the software and insert the activation key you receive via email. If you did not receive the above-mentioned email, then I would suggest checking your spam filter.

Sorry,

This method violates everything that logically says "not the right thing to do". If they really want to contribute to all the positive things that results from this website's hard work and research, this is not necessary.

I will pass. Good or bad.

by kendall on 27. May 2009 - 4:10  (22422)

Please clarify? I'm not sure what you mean? They never ask for a credit card, period. What is your issue with the offer? They do ask for name and address information but NO banking or cc information at all. I don't understand the reaction?

If you go through the entire ordering process you are never asked for any bank or credit card information.

by kendall on 27. May 2009 - 2:15  (22416)

Please double check the link. There is a comment that states:

Please click on the "Continue" button to receive your FREE Activation Key.

NOTE: You will enter the iolo shopping cart as part of this process, but your credit card will NOT be charged.

However, once you hit continue, they never ask for any type of credit card information. All you have to enter is your name, address, phone number, and email address. They send you the license key to your email address.

Again, you do not have to enter any credit card information!!

by Anonymous on 27. May 2009 - 1:58  (22415)

I'm with #1, if the software is free, they don't need all the personal info and the banking info for a email with the serial or key.
Also....how about if somebody does NOT have a credit card (like a young person)?
I won't have any business with a company like that one.

by Anonymous on 27. May 2009 - 5:33  (22428)

They DON'T ask for any credit card or banking info.
They're using their normal ordering process as a means to give away their
product for promotional purposes.

by Anonymous on 26. May 2009 - 23:03  (22407)

if it is free why do they need a cc?

by Anonymous on 27. May 2009 - 6:08  (22430)

I stand corrected...it is FREE... I went thur check out and entered just name, addy, state.. etc.. NO CC.. I received the free email activation link and key within an hr...
