Driver Magician 3.4 Free March 6 Only - Now Expired

NOTE: GIZMO'S RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FREE ALTERNATIVES here.

March 6, 2009

Driver Magician 3.4 WAS FREE  MARCH 6 ONLY - on Give Away Of The Day (GAOTD)

Developer's description:

Driver Magician offers a professional solution for device drivers backup, restoration and update in Windows operating system. It identifies all the hardware in the system, extracts their associated drivers from the hard disk and backs them up to a location of your choice. Then when you format and reinstall/upgrade your operating system, you can restore all the “saved” drivers just as if you had the original driver diskettes in your hands. After one system reboot, your PC will be loaded and running with the required hardware drivers.

Driver Magician has a built in database of the latest drivers with the ability to go to the Internet to receive the driver updates. It saves lots of time to find the correct drivers and mature drivers will obviously increase the performance of hardware. If there are unknown devices in your PC, Driver Magician helps you to detect them easily and quickly with its built in hardware identifier database.

Ashraf has posted this brief review in the comments over on the GAOTD page (there's also a  full review on his own site here):

The Good
* Automatically detects the hardware on your computer.
* You can backup your drivers in multiple different ways including to a standalone executable.
* You have the ability to include or exclude Microsoft Windows drivers.
* You can restore your backed up drivers without installing Driver Magician.
* You can backup extra things such as your registry.
* Built in tool to help you maintain your computer by updating your drivers and detecting unknown devices.
* Pretty good compression rate.

The Bad
* You can't choose the name of your backup.
* If an old backup is of the same name in the same location as your new backup, older backup will be replaced without prompt.

Registration and installation
Went fine

I'm never sure about these system-restore-from-scratch apps from GAOTD...
It seeme that If I reformat my hard drive, then try to start rebuilding, then the application wouldn't do it's thing because it wouldn't know that I had registered it on the day of the GAOTD giveaway.... Does that make sense? Has anyone tested this (i.e. done a complete system rebuild with the assistance of an app from GAOTD)?? Thanks :o)

PS: I would also like to add that I'm not complaining.... GAOTD is super-awesome. I check it everyday!!

I understand your concern. In today's case, according to Ashraf, it's not necessary to have Driver Magician on your computer in order to restore your backed up drivers. You can read Ashraf's full review here:

if you read the reviews on download page you will see you dont need the software on your computer to restore your drivers.
