DriveImage XML Does not restore!

Hey,

I recently (September 08) followed Gizmo's "never reinstall windows" guide and now my computer has crashed. So I put my UBCD4W in and the computer boots in fine and everything appears to work until I actually try to restore. I select the drive I am restoring to, then click next. Now I find the disc image (backup file) and select that - I click next. I does the whole confirming thing where I type "DISK0#1" in and click OK. Then after about 1sec of doing absolutely nothing, I get this error: "error writing to compressed stream." DOES SOMEONE KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS?!?!

Any help is much appreciated.

I got the error:
"Error writing to compressed stream"
Info: APPEXC
Address: 004FB3A6

one second after starting to restore the drive,
because I used different versions of driveImage xml for backup and restore.
When I used the same version of driveImage xml for restore as I used for backup, I got no error anymore.

The pc has three (3) drives and i’m trying to restore the image to the third drive which has been partitioned and made active. the original drive was SATA and i’m trying to write to an IDE drive…does this matter???

Had this problem and solved it. I was trying to restore using a DriveImage plug in in Bart PE (stripped down WinXP run off CD). I think the issue had something to do with using a newer version of the software to back up that the one used to restore, and backup up with compression.

I re-compiled my version of Bart PE using the same version of DriveImage as I used to back up, and was able to restore files. I didn't try a whole restore, just individual files/folders - but it did work.

Hope it helps.
