"Freemake" video downloader contains adware "Open Candy", as clearly stated up front.

by Peter999 (not verified) on 17. August 2012 - 15:38  (97858)

Youtube seems to have recently made a change to thwart downloading. Does anyone have a download method that is currently working?

by KK (not verified) on 5. August 2012 - 16:43  (97239)

of, course. Freemake video downloader still the best.

I usually only need the audio from you tube videos. I convert it to MP3 for my music arsenal....this one works for me... quite quick as well.

sorry!! it didn't work for download.give me some suggestions.

by Anupam on 14. August 2012 - 12:22  (97692)

I think there is some kind of restriction on the video, that is why it is not being downloaded by the software.

by imanerd11 on 1. August 2012 - 19:10  (97047)

Opera has an addon to download videos from YT and some from other sites as well, and some addons for converting to mp3. Maxthon I know allows for FLV download of videos with its built-in resource sniffer, and I think I was told it can be made to download as mp4 by changing quality but I can't be certain, at least in terms of HOW to and if it's by changing quality or some other way, but I'm pretty certain I was told it can nevertheless download as mp4. This eliminates the need to install any extra software minus your browser, and in fact there are addons for the other major browsers as well - not just Opera or features built-in such as is the case with Maxthon, but I can't say the same for IE, but IE stinks personally in my opinion. Anyway, it adds a button usually to the video page when using the addons in most browsers. And there aren't any viruses. I'm not sure you can download html5 videos though, but then again it is html5, part of the page's main scripting base if you're using html5 player and assuming YT uses html5 for its website's design script, even if not for most videos, since I know Google uses html5 for a lot of things; so it's not really that easily extracted I wouldn't think, but you can download flash videos from youtube as mp4 or flv in most qualities, and even HD with most addons for the major browsers, and usually download mp3 as well, mp3 POSSIBLY being possible with html5, though that I still can't be certain. Even more unlikely though that you'll be able to download a video from html5 though than downloading mp3 from html5, even though not probably likely either, at least currently since html5 is still in developing stages.

Good Lord!! Caffeine, meth or hyperactivity? Never has one person consecutively posted so much!!

by imanerd11 on 1. August 2012 - 21:30  (97064)

Actually consecutively would indicate multiple posts in a row, and I have not done that; I only have posted 1 comment, not more than 1, so it would not be collective or plural, unless split up into multiple entries; so technically that word isn't being used properly, not to criticize, just pointing out, as a friend. And I don't do drugs, I'm staunchly anti-drug. I just talk a lot, especially when about something I enjoy reading/talking about. But I apologize for my excessive banter.

And I eat a lot of sugar.

But I do admit, as part of my autism medications, one of them includes an active ingredient, Methylphenidate, a component of Meth, but it is commonly known as Concerta in non-generic version, and I don't CHOOSE to take it. But this is all besides the point. And I am staunchly anti-drug like I said. I take medications as part of what's prescribed by my MD, not because I'm "using" so to speak.

Needless to say, writing is how I extensively express my thoughts and opinions to get off my chest and feel good.

No offense intended! All was in jest. Thanks for your kind reply.

by imanerd11 on 3. August 2012 - 13:08  (97152)

Assuming you meant me, no worries. And sorry if I took it the wrong way a bit too much. I get defensive over-the-top more than I should at times.

by rhiannon on 1. August 2012 - 21:51  (97068)

Feel free to post any helpful comments whenever you like. =)
HTML 5 is, as you say, in its early stages and isn't supported by most applications yet.

by imanerd11 on 1. August 2012 - 22:47  (97070)

Thanks, I have been a member of Gizmo for a bit of a while but never really posted comments, but I'm thinking I might stick around a while. And yeah, html5 does have great potential, and has shown to work well, and for that matter, on paper and in theory, is state-of-the-art, but when actually implemented, doesn't work always as good as it should or for that matter seems to in concept. I hope to see it grow and its usage grow as well in the upcoming months and years.

any views on the suitability of GetGo YouTube Downloader?

by MidnightCowboy on 29. July 2012 - 17:34  (96841)

Yes, the download defaults to cnet so you're going to get hit with their bundled installer.

Which downloader for videos in addition to ones from YouTube is recommended? I wish to later transfer these videos to a DVD. THanks

by Macel (not verified) on 14. January 2012 - 4:01  (87151)

by Kulick (not verified) on 16. October 2012 - 5:09  (100821)

Would this one also enable me to burn the videos to a DVD? If not which app do you recommend to both download from YouTube and other sites and then burn to DVD? Thank you for your reply.
