Don't Quote Me
People who love quotations will definitely enjoy this site.
QuoteStumbler is a fun site that helps you discover new quotes.
At first glance, it seems that it only displays a random quote.
It has a few other features that make visiting the site fun and useful.
When you first visit the page, you will be presented with a randomly selected quote. Reloading the page brings up a different quote.
Each randomly selected quote has one or more words highlighted. Clicking one of the highlighted words displays a new quote, but with a twist.
That quote begins with the word that was highlighted. I didn't know there were so many quotes that begin with "Of" - I had fun clicking the same word several times in a row and seeing the different quotes that came up.
The "Find A Quote" link will search the database for words. The result displays one quote that contains that word.
QuoteStumbler has a database with approximately 18,000 quotations. The quotations are gathered from well-known authors, politicians, and other historical figures.
Much to my delight, they consider Calvin and Hobbes (cartoon series by Bill Watterson) historical figures.
Clicking on 'Get New Quotes Daily' opens a Twitter page that has the quote of the day.
I think an option to get the daily quote via email would be a nice addition to the site.
Unlikely as it seems, there are people who don't use Twitter.
Getting the quote every day via email would allow more people to enjoy the quotes.
QuoteStumbler isn't a large site with a bazillion quotes searchable by author, topic, or key words.
Its small, fun, and easy to use if you like a variety of random quotes and aren't researching a particular author or quotation.
Signing off,
