defrag

Why is it better to use one of the defrag programs recommended here rather than the one that comes with Windows XP?

Simply this, there are several alternatives that provide a faster and superior defrag experience.

and there are similarly efficient programs, such as Iobit or Defraggler which can be downloaded at MajorGeeks, Filehippo and Download.com.

Good luck.

I prefer to use Diskeeper over the built in defragmenter for various reasons, its faster, completely automatic, works smoothly in the automatic mode even as I use the PC, has low free space defrag, defrags system files and is very thorough, defrags without skipping fragmented files.

Here are the reasons JKDefrag gives: much faster, optimized for daily use, several disk optimization strategies, directories are moved to the beginning of the disk, reclaims MFT reserved space after disk-full, maintains free spaces for temporary files, can defragment very full harddisks, can defragment very large files, can defragment individual directories and files, can be used as a screen saver, can be run from cdrom or memory stick, sources available & can be customized.

Some reasons will be different for other defraggers.
