Create Great-Looking Flash-based Sites Online for Free

The web site pictured in the screen-shot below might not look particularly impressive.  After all, it's just a bit of text about me, edited into a template that doesn't really suit.

The best bit, though, is that I put together the site in about 3 minutes flat, for free, without needing to install any software.

It's all done through a rather impressive site called www.wix.com.  Just visit the site and register, then click on one of their collected templates and start editing.  You can change the text, the pictures (use something from their library or upload your own), the navigation, the colours, and just about everything else.  When you're done, click on the Publish button and your web site is ready to use, hosted on Wix's own servers.

The service is free, as is the hosting.  Create as many pages as you want, and edit them as often as you wish.  There's a premium service, for money, if you want the professional features, such as having your own domain name for your Wix pages.  Or I guess you could just register a domain name yourself for a few bucks, and point it at your Wix pages rather than a traditional hosting account.

If you want a great-looking web site but you're not a born designer, check out Wix.  If nothing else, it's a great way to spend a dull afternoon, experimenting with different layouts and images.
