I am soon to be refurbishing an old pc with Windows XP Home edition on it. Can someone provide some references for basic security apps that are compatible with and work best with a 10? year old OS? Also is Sandboxie compatible with XP? Finally, any certain issues I need to be aware of with XP regarding security? Thank You

There is very little software that won't run under Windows XP given that XP is only now giving up its reign as the most installed version of Windows. So go to the reviews and check the system requirements in the Quick Selection Guide that follows the review and comes before the comments. Ditto for Sandboxie.

Also, you should be using Windows XP Service Pack 3 (released 2008) so you will avoid the 10-year old version.

My copy of the book/manual is in English until its gets past the Table of Contents, at which point for the rest of the manual the text is in a foreign language I cannot identify. An odd aspect is the Section headings throughout the manual are in English.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks

I don't know. I went through all this day after day worrying about my Vista. Try this, scan that, stop this, fix that. My performance number kept going down down down. I finally dumped all that crap and just kept the CC. Installed all Google, Chrome, mail, the whole works. Disabled IE every way I could; and now the old performance numbers are clear to the top. I just enjoy my machine and don't sit around trying to fix crap all day. No spam, no viruses, no spies.

reply to myself. i did download the guide and learned some things. I just thought was another do this do that Vista thingy. It's like the book that didn't come with the machine. Did do a diskchk and got some changes. Loads fast and opened right away with the latest Adobe 9.0.

I have been using this and recommending it to others for quite a while. He has many other tweak guides on his website. tweakguides.com Including Firefox, Nvidia & ATI video boards and many games.

A Win7 version is expected to be posted at about time of the scheduled release. I am looking forward to seeing it.

Koroush Ghazi's guides are all clear and concise with no bull.

Highly recommended.

Thank's For Finding This, Actually Looks Quite Interesting.
I Look Forward To Reading Through This On The Weekend.
From A Quick Looking Over, Seems To Be Well Organized And A Nicely
Laid Out Document. This Could For Sure Be Handy For A Couple
Of My Family Members Whom Are Not All That Computer Literate. If I Pass
This On To Them, Could Save Them, And Myself A Lot Of Time Spent On The
Phone Trying To Solve Many Of The Problems That Seem To Keep Popping Up.

Thanks Again.
