Command And Conquer Your Desktop Wallpaper Collection
This feature filled free program can manage any desktop wallpaper collection with ease.
Some of us manage to acquire enough desktop wallpaper that it gets, well, a little out of control. Others, not so much. Either way, a good program that lets you configure and tweak until you have the exact images from every folder you choose showing up on time is a good tool to have around.
Caledos Automatic Wallpaper Changer manages large and small collections of desktop wallpapers. It is highly configurable.
It can change your desktop wallpaper of course, though it does much more than the basics - choosing which images to display and how often.
You can add multiple folders and set the display intervals from every minute to every month and anything in between.
When installed for "all users", every user on a workstation has their settings and images retained.
The What I Saw feature shows a list of the latest 100 wallpapers, allowing you to view, delete or set as wallpaper.
There are many other features in this program, check the site to see them all.
Windows XP/Vista. If you have Windows 95, 98, NT4 or 2000 you can use a previous version.

I use Caledos and I am very satisfied. It is slow at finding wallpapers because doing so, it doesn't use too much resources _slowing_ down other (more important:-) applications (I send an email to the support and this is the answer).
I saw the Windows 7 wallpaper changer too but it can't recognize when you add a new image to a folder so, even if I have Windows 7 RC on my machine, I am continuing to use caledos...

I have Persistence of Memory for my Theme and Wallpaper. It has been my wallpaper for years. I guess if I had a collection of Dali paintings or maybe Van Gogh paintings maybe I could use this program. I know I am boring. It is one of my qualities. This offer makes me want to think about downloading a bunch of paintings which I could enjoy for a brief time. Since I spend most of my time in windows, I never really look at the wallpaper. Maybe I will remain boring and keep a wonderful background.
I have used a program called WimpWall for years. Very small, changes wallpaper on startup and then exits. http://www.chaucery.com/jme/wimpwall/
Can't comment on how good WimpWall might be because I've never used it but I love the opening line from their page!
"WimpWall is the free automatic wallpaper changer for those too wimpy to be bothered with complicated stuff."
Superb!
The best, without question, is Steve Murphy's AWC which, until February of this year, was freeware. It is now shareware. It is the most powerful, flexible & versatile program of its type that I ever found and I'd tried many, many until I came across AWC about 5 years ago. Many options for display, fit, desktop color, adding or deleting folders and/or subfolders, display time, display change mode and more.

Not sure if people have tried Window 7 (the RC is free for use until August 2010). Win7 has a wallpaper changer built into the OS. It's just one of the many nicer built in features in Windows 7.
If you want to get Windows 7 Download visit - http://www.microsoft.com.au/windows7

I have used a program called Panorama 32 for this purpose for sometime now. It is small, unobtrusive and does the job very nicely.
I confirm your review. I used Caledos Wallpaper for years, and it rocks:-)
Caledos is fantastic! thank you for the hit!
Nice changer, but I still find that my Nuonsoft Wallpaper Cycler Lite is better. It has more useful features, even though it can be real laggy sometimes (when it's going through my thousands of walls, and fitting a very high resolution one on my screen). The hide, and centre layout aspect of this is nice, but it's nothing compared to what Nuonsoft can do. It can delete, select in explorer, remove from list, and directly open the image with my default program, Irfanview. Also, it has an useful interface where you can change specific things about each image, like it's tiling. That's especially important for me, because it can show me the walls I recently added, and if they can fit on my screen properly without losing too much quality, or cropping it out badly, etc. There's also it's CPU monitoring (where it won't cycle if the CPU is busy), keyboard shortcuts, far more specific cycling times, and other things. Lastly, I find that Caledos Automatic Wallpaper Changer is slow at finding all of my wallpapers, and uses quite a bit of resources when I'm not using it (although I'm sure it will become better when it finishes, and after a reboot), plus the requirement of .NET 3.5 is a nuisance.
Nunonsoft's Wallpaper Cycler Lite completely fulfills my needs.
I especially like its ability to start up, change my wallpaper and then completely exits so my pc's resources can be used for more important things.
(Thanks to this site I found this nice piece of software. See http://www.techsupportalert.com/node/197)
Great comments, I'll check out Nuonsoft.
Thanks for taking the time to mention all the features that are important to you, its a terrific overview of what should be included in that category of software.

Oh, I didn't know there was a whole thread on it. Anyways, I don't get why would you put WallMaster, and EvJO Wallpaper Changer over WallCycler Lite. I mean, if I recall correctly there was a 50 wall limit on Wallmaster free version, and there still might be one today. As for EvJO, I've tried it out, and it is more simpler and better in a few ways, but what I really need that it doesn't have is the stretch to fill tiling in Nuonsoft. What it basically does is stretch and keep the aspect ratio, but instead of filling the blank space with plain colour, it crops out the longer sides to fit it all on the screen. Also, the synchronize feature isn't there (I'll have to manually add the folders, which contain my wallpapers separated by genre, again to update). The interface isn't as good too. Lastly, this program can't seem to support all of my walls (7035 and counting), and crashes when I make it change the wall to the next, or at some other random times. Now I can't even open it.
