Check Whether Your Chosen Name Exists on Dozens of Social Network Sites
So, you've got a great idea for a new web site. Or you simply want to increase your internet exposure by registering a domain name and perhaps signing up at one or more social networking sites.
But what name should you choose for your online persona? And, most importantly, how can you quickly find out whether your chosen name is still up for grabs on all the sites you want to sign up with?
That's where KnowEm (http://knowem.com) comes in. Just type in the name you want to use, and the site instantly tells you whether the domain name is available in various countries, and whether it's already in use on any of around 50 different social networking sites.
The service is free, and there's nothing to sign up for. But if you do choose to register, and to pay for their premium services, they'll take care of registering your chosen name on loads of sites. Handy if your company wants a web presence but doesn't have anyone willing or able to do the hard work and establish all those profiles.
Me, I just enjoy using the free service to find out just how much time and money the big-brand companies are spending on promoting their products online. Try to find an online service where Coca Cola doesn't have an official presence, for example!

Thanks to "bibzgi" for bringing this to my attention. If you've got a Hot Find to tell me about, please see http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/submit-product-review.htm.

How do you know if "Knowem" isn't a domain name tracker and register site. Many of so called free domain name checkers including some of the biggest, track all domain name searches, any good name on hot topics if you fail to register that name immediately and decide to do it the next day it is gone. This happened to me twice, so I never search for domains on any of those sites. It isn't hard to figure out where and how to search.
This site would be great, except it doesn't work (for me anyway). I ran a scan using my name and was told it's available on:
Twitter (it's not, according to the website registration page), Facebook - it can't be because I'm already on it. Hmmm, (thinks) actually everything IS available on Facebook as it allows duplicates.
After that I stopped clicking on the results.
Maybe if it explained how it justifies it's results it would be more useful.
