Long Description

FreewareUpdater is an application to manage open source and freeware on your computer.  Gone are the days of scouting the entire internet looking for the right program to install.  We took the burden away from you with the FreewareUpdater.

All you need to do is install the freewareUpdater on any computer and update the application list. This will pull the list of the most useful freeware to your system.  To install new software just double click on the software in the list and it will be downloaded and installed on your system.

The freewareUpdater keeps track of changes in the software releases. If a new release comes out it is automatically updated. So now you, do not have to worry about when the new version of your favourite software is released. All updates can be managed from the Freewareupdater.

It comes with an intuitive, simple and user friendly interface. The freeware updater is a software vault sitting right on your desktop.

Features:

1. Collect data on freely available software online

2. Automatic update of the application list. When a new application is available the list will be refreshed and you will be able to install the new application

3.Install new application directly from the  tool

4.See directly what application is installed and which are not installed

5.Runs on windows 2000/XP/Vista

Very useful information. Thanks

I have had a quick look at it and came away unimpressed. It restricts you to 209 utilities, while the others (such as my current favorite SUMo) check for the updates of many more programs.

Moreover, it did not do what it claims to. It cannot find any of my installed programs that it supports and can therefore not tell me if there are updates for them. Only once I installed a program from within FreewareUpdater was it able to find the program and inform me of its version. This is annoying if you have already installed all the software you use.

It is also a memory hog, using 89MB of memory while idle (195MB at peak). Compare this to the 54MB peak for UDC, the 35MB peak for PSI and the 7MB peak for SUMo.

Although it perhaps caters for those people that want something like Ubuntu's Synaptic Package Manager for their Windows (much like Appsnap), I will not be using it. I prefer the other options.

This LOOKS wonderful.
The site includes a list of supported freeware. I'm a little concerned about another auto-install tool, and I worry that I won't be able to control exactly what gets installed.
But we need people to TEST this. Any volunteers?

This is my department Peter, I'll get on it.
