Can't check for updates on any of antivirus software installed.
Hi. I use windows XP SP3. I have AVG Free Edition, Spybot S&D, Malwarebyte's Free Edition and SuperAntiSpyware Free Edition. On none of these can I check for updates and therefore download updates. The message is "server connection failed". AVG recommended I go to their website, but interestingly, I can't access any of the homepages through Mozilla or Internet Explorer, I also get a "server connection failure" notice.
I am a little suspicious of the Mozilla I have on here, as you can't always go to sites, you get diverted to a different site. I also had a "file corruption" message when I scanned with SuperAntiSpyware regarding Mozilla, told to run Checkdsc utility, but that won't run either.
Any advice would be welcome, but you are talking to a layman here with limited technical knowledge, so please explain in language I can understand!
Many thanks
LJ
Hi,
I got help from another site to disable the little so and so that was blocking my "check for updates" - now I can run them. I then ran Malwarebyte's and found I had 750 infections. I had to post the log to the tech support person and am waiting for a reply. I can pass the information on to you if you like?
LJ
This sounds like you are be infected with malware. You could follow this guide
http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/jonathant-spyware-removal-guide.htm
And reinstall Firefox after that.
I have same problem! And the weirdest thing is; I CANT EVEN UPDATE WINDOWS UPDATE SRVICE!!! Plus my computer was shut down few times for no reason, it all started on Dec. 20th. I tried everything and multiple antiviruses, even shutting down my firewall, nothing works. I think its some kind of virus that doesnt block update connections.
Try this for starters
Click on Start, click Run, and then type devmgmt.msc and click OK
On the View menu click on Show hidden devices
Browse to Non-Plug and Play Drivers and click the + sign to the left, you should see something like TDSSserv.sys in that list.
Highlight that driver and right click on it and select DISABLE - NOT uninstall.
Now RESTART your computer.
After that, I can re-direct you to the site that seems to be helping a lot of people with this particular type of problem if you want. The above should enable you to update your anti-virus. I would strongly suggest you run Malwarebyte's Free Anti-Malware programme as soon as it's updated. There is quite a bit more information to follow if you want me to re-direct you.

That's strange, what firewall are you using ? Have you tried disabling it temporarily and perform update ?
