  • Color Picker

"Color Picker is a brand new utility application, designed for all Cocoa developers and application designers. You can create your UIColor or NSColor using a hex value, Red Green Blue (RGB) or by selecting the color with the built-in color picker. It is an efficient color picker, for professionals and beginners too, who mostly care about optimizing their workflow and speeding up their process. With Color Picker, you can choose any color from everywhere in your screen using the magnifier and selecting your desired pixel. Then a preview of the color, its Hexadecimal, RGB value, NSColor and UIColor is displayed. You can copy the code with a single click, drag 'n drop or use the new shortcuts to paste it into your source code. With the new Menubar option you can quickly access your recently copied or recently saved colors. The magnifier tool instantly displays a preview of the color (HEX or RGB). Drag and drop your code from the application to any program you are working on. (e.g. Xcode) Additionally, the app can read any HEX or RGB values that you might type and show you the corresponding color and code. ?Last but not least, Color Picker gets you out of trouble by remembering the colors you used, as it contains a library, where you can store the colors for any use in the future, simply by dragging the preview box to the library."

  • Colibri

"Colibri is a free Mac screen color picker for displaying the RGB color value of pixels (e.g A Digital Color Meter, Colorimeter). By using shorcut keys, you can display the RGB color value as percentage, absolute or hexadecimal, you can also save the solid color as a PNG/TIFF image on your Desktop. There can be many image formats including TIFF, GIF, JPEG, BMP, DICOM, PNG, FITS and "raw" and ... Read and supports "stacks" (stack), a series of images that share a single window. Best Free High Dynamic Range (HDR) Software for Mac OS

  • Luminance HDRLuminance HDR

"Luminance HDR is the best option if you want to experiment. Nine different tone-mapping algorithms, that means - if you want 'that' particular HDR look - there's a fair chance you'll achieve it with Luminance HDR. More realistic? Sure. A little like a drawing? Sure. Maybe surrealistic? It's all here." (Review)

  • HDRtist

"Meet HDRtist, the easiest HDR software program for the Mac, thanks to its intuitive design & streamlined interface. Mac HDR Software will never be the same. Shooting HDR (High Dynamic Range) Photos can be great fun, we wanted a program that would be easy and just as fun to use. So we made one."

Best Free Image Editor for Mac OS

  • GIMPGIMP

  • Seashore

"An open source image editor features gradients, textures and anti-aliasing for both text and brush strokes, supports multiple layers and alpha channel editing.

  • ImageJ

"ImageJ is a public domain Java image processing program inspired by NIH Image for the Macintosh. It runs, either as an online applet or as a downloadable application, on any computer with a Java 1.4 or later virtual machine. Downloadable distributions are available for Windows, Mac OS, Mac OS X and Linux. It can display, edit, analyze, process, save and print 8-bit, 16-bit and 32-bit images. Best Free Image Viewer for Mac OS

  • Xsee

"An image browser and viewer, developed in Cocoa, with a beautiful Aqua interface. Supporting gif, jpeg, tiff, png, icons and more, full drag and drop interface, built-in tools for renaming files, convert images, create thumbnails. Integrated slide show for viewing images in window or full screen, customizable toolbar, full support for mouse or keyboard navigation and much more."

  • Xee 2.2

" Xee³ was created as an almost complete rewrite from scratch of the older Xee 2.2. If you for some reason prefer Xee 2.2, or if you use an older computer which can not handle Xee³, the old version is still available for free on the Google Code download page. Note that this should not be used as a demo version of Xee³. Xee³ contains many large changes from Xee 2.2, and they can not be directly compared. Also note that development has ended on the 2.x branch of Xee, so no new features will be added, nor will bugs be fixed. However, the source code is available, if you want to make changes yourself. Xee 2.2 should run on both Intel and PowerPC machines, on Mac OS X versions as far back as 10.4. The last free version of Xee - 2.2 - is still freely available, and DOES seem to still work on Mac OS X 10.9.5 ... so, I put it back. "

  • Sequential

"Sequential is an image viewer originally designed for opening a folder of images and displaying them in order. It works well for viewing comics and manga.

It can display folders and archives of images (including JPEG, PNG, and GIF) and PDF files, and has mature full screen support and can display images' Exif data."

  • ArtRage Starter Edition

"An amazing natural paint program that allows users to achieve realistic paint effects without the messy clean-up. It's a simple-to-use tool with a wonderfully designed user interface that will suit the young adult through the experienced artist.

Even in its limited version, it's an amazing program. Bottom line is that you can concentrate on your creativity, rather than wrestle with menus." (Review)

  • Hexels

"Hexels is a new kind of art tool based on patterns and tessellations instead of pixels. Use it to create beautiful works of art, hex-based maps for games, or anything in between. Start with the default hexagons and experience a cool new way of drawing. The free version of Hexels features a totally new way of creating art, standard hexel shape mode plus 6 bonus shape modes, standard and other glow maps and export .png files up to 1280x1280."

Best Free Image Resizing Program for Mac OS

  • PhotoScale

"PhotoScale is a picture resizing and format changing tool. It can scale all the images inside a directory to a defined resolution quite quickly. It's pretty useful for users of social networking and photo sharing sites. It's an ideal tool when you have to upload to the web huge amounts of pictures. Most social networking sites use quite low image resolutions and uploading 3072x2304 (7 megapixels, approximately 4.5 megabytes) pictures is both a waste of time and bandwidth. There aren't many system requirements actually, you just need to have the latest version of java runtime edition installed on your system to run the program."

  • Super Image Resizer

"Super Image Resizer can resize, rotate using camera data and create thumbnails for image folders. It is designed to be easy to use, can process tons of files within just a few clicks and does not need any installation process! • BatchResize'em

"This application enables you to batch resize images by simply entering the number of pixels required in the new images' width or by indicating the percentage required of the original size. The width to height ratio of the images is preserved. Operating System Requirements: Mac OS X 10.4 or later ... for Macintosh systems ONLY."

  • PhotoSlimmer

"PhotoSlimmer is an extremely easy-to-use photo resizer, specially made for emailing or uploading images. Using PhotoSlimmer couldn't be easier: Drag photos into PhotoSlimmer, then Drag them out to where you want them. • Picasa

"A superb choice for those who want an organiser which will take control of the way in which you organise your images. Once installed it will offer you several ways of organising your image collection, adopting by choice a 'timeline' which places your most recent images at the top of the tree.

It is ideally suited for easy integration with web albums and on-line sharing of images. Simple highly automated features offer image correction, full-screen slide shows and you can now see your pictures arranged on a global map." (Review)

No. This entry is a bad joke.

There IS NO Macintosh Binary for this APP! You expect my typical reader to Download the Source package/Check the Hashes to see it hasn't been tampered with/Compile this to MAKE a binary copy/Start the compiled App in the Terminal - all for a Command Line program with NO GUI?

I, myself, have never compiled a package to MAKE a Program: and I do NOT expect my readers to do things I cannot. And I do not use command line programs: you must remember a whole bunch of complicated command line sequences and be a good touch typist as well. Frankly, that stuff went out with DOS 5.0: And I do not care to revisit those days. Programs I will use have Menus and can be controlled with a pointing device: like a mouse, or trackpad, or trackball. And my readers expect the same.

Please, in the future do not post any program as a suggestion for this list for which you must compile your own binary! And, I would highly dissuade you from suggesting anymore command line programs: Because I do not intend to post them unless they really fulfill a critical function that no other program (With a GUI) can match. I want the 10 minutes of my life, that it took me to check this useless entry, Back!

Juice:

http://juicereceiver.sourceforge.net/

Thank you for all the useful suggestions .... but a few of your suggestions are old programs that no longer even launch on Mac OS 10.7 or later, or won't work properly on any recent Mac OS.

Take "Juice", from 2005, for example: it won't even launch!

Or your suggestion for "Burn" - which quits in the middle of a Burn - and is no longer supported by the developer: I removed that from this list 2 weeks ago! (and commented on its removal - so no one would suggest it again - in the editor's forum: in a thread with the words Mac and Gory in the title ... please read it?)

And thank you for all the suggested games. But I don't happen to have a spare year handy in which to check to see if they are still working on Mac OS 10.9 ... nor to even post the 100 games in the "Merry Christmas" list I made (in the "Recent Finds" section in the editors forum) - that I know still work because I pre-tested them out FOR Christmas! This is my first time online this week ... my real life has become way too busy to allow me any time online to post new things ANYWHERE.

Pile 'em On!!! But I will not be posting new stuff until I've checked the whole existing list and removed all the posted things that don't work any longer (like Burn). And that's not going to be soon if I only get 3 hours online a week - only by getting up super early at 4 AM some day ....

After I check the existing things on the list to see if they still work, and weed out the remaining non-functional items, then - and only then - will I start weeding out any non-functioning suggestions and adding them to the list. I seem to be the only editor here with a Macintosh - and half of my friends own Macs too - so it falls on me to see if they still work before they are posted. It is a big responsibility ... and weeks of continuous non-stop working just to test the remaining ones ... and I have less time for the internet now than ever before (I'm not liking the fact I can't be here as much as I wish to be ... ).

My hour is up .... see you next week.

Sorry about that. I got those from Best of Mac lists from the net.

I have 30 more to check/post and then I am done ;)

Yes, those suggestions ... and then I have Another List to dig through (leave that one to me, Please)!

After I get done posting those 100 Games I stored away for later in "Recent Finds", that is ....

And I'll be posting new things for a long time to come ....

No, it is my bad for failing to list Burn BY NAME in my editing list ... I'm just getting done spanking myself over it in the editors forum. Mea Culpa!!!

Caddy - the HTTP/2 web server:

Phocus - free image processing software:
http://www.hasselblad.com/software/phocus

Apparently this is a 'Yes, BUT ....' program with hidden catches to it ... I'll list it here: BUT with a few caveats.

First thing upon launch: "Phocus wants to access my contacts.". Well. I cannot think of a legitimate purpose that a big camera company (that only has very wealthy clients) would want the name/address/number/department/ETC of everyone I know (presumably all of their wealthy clients never think twice and freely share this information?) - but I can think of several purposes they might use this information for that I might be unhappy about at a later time.

So, NO: they do not get permission from the system to access my contacts - denied!

Then this sneaky program tries to "call home" anyway: behind your back! Thank goodness for "Little Snitch" (I have purchased) warning me about bad activities tried over my internet connection!

Now, there are legitimate reasons a program might want to call home: to check for a newer version of itself is the common usage. But a good developer always warns you, with a prompt or two ... something to the effect of "AnyAPP would like to check for updates. (You must be connected to the internet to continue.)" {CANCEL} { OK } before it snatches at your internet connection, and sometimes the part in parenthesis is in a separate notifier box with {CONTINUE} instead of { OK }.

Having already tried to grab up all my contacts personal information: NOW Phocus will try to transmit information through my internet connection without me noticing it - until it is too late. What say you 'Little Snitch'? DENIED!!!!! Do NOT let Phocus call home, I said.

Now Phocus insists I register it - with my Hasselblad camera serial number, and a whole long user profile - 'for support purposes' (marketing support ... I'll bet): good thing there is a {LATER} Button: or I'd have quit checking this software out and given a failing grade to it right then. It will nag you regularly to register it, you bet!

Finally I get to the Welcome dialog. I checked the program out. It is "Adobe Photoshop" complicated in there: just the way I like it. Seems like well written code - just that it acts snoopy without permission. IF you trust Hasselblad will not snoop through your computer for data: go ahead and install this "Free Download" program.

Is there any way I can batch remove 3249 unwanted emails from my ipad. I have mail "ruled" to avoid spam on my syncd mac but the syncing seeme to occur prior to the sorting.

I think so ... but I do not use an iPad or Apple "Mail", myself. Here is how I would theoretically proceed: 1. Get them all in a group. Arrange their sorting order so as to get as many spam messages in a contiguous block as is possible - hopefully they are all marked as junk and you can sort by junk status. You can arrange to sort them by clicking on the tops of the various columns (sender email address/junk status/date/subject/ ... and so on) - which will regroup them by sender or subject ... or whatever. 2. Bulk delete shortcuts On my Mac Desktop I can "Select" a large contiguous block of files in the finder - or messages in my email client (or in quite a few other Mac programs) in one of two ways: Drag Select ... where you hold the left mouse button down while drawing a rectangle that encloses JUST the items you want ... OR Select the first message of the block you want deleted - then HOLD DOWN the Shift Key and click on the last message of the block you want deleted: that selects all messages between the first and last ones. Then click Delete. Go get the iPad Manual: https://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1595/en_US/ipad_user_guide... and check page 55 Please. "Delete, move, or mark multiple messages. While viewing a list of messages, tap Edit. Select some messages, then choose an action. If you make a mistake, shake iPad immediately to undo."
Sadly, Xee is not freeware anymore. :-(
Yes, the latest version from the Apple App store DOES cost money .... HOWEVER ... the last free version of Xee - 2.2 - is still freely available, and DOES seem to still work on Mac OS X 10.9.5 ... at least it launched when I tested it, and all of the pieces appeared to be there ... I'm putting it BACK ... it is still of use. "The Last Free Version" is still good enough.
Thank You. I will remove it.
