Best Free Database Development Tool

LyteRAD CE

Building complete database applications could'nt be easier than this. Zero code tools have been around for a while, but this is probably the best of its kind for building small light weight database applications. The CE edition is free and comes with an embedded maintenance free database, so that you can focus on building applications and forget about database administration. The widget pallette allows you to build quite complex applications with little effort. And to top it off LyteRAD also connects to industry standard databases for higher reliability and robustness.

Any recommended tool for SQLite ? (not Java based please)

Hello,

have a try on SQLite2009 Pro Enterprise Manager it's free an not java based.
an excellent piece of software!! ;-)))

kind greetings
MrZebulon

See post below.

I did, thanks, but i already knew that list.

I found this list of SQLite management software: http://www.sqlite.org/cvstrac/wiki?p=ManagementTools
Many of them are free!

Alpha, pre-alpha, beta, discontinued products... not such a good list i'm afraid (better than nothing though).

From that list the only freeware i would use is SQLiteSpy. SQLite Administrator and SQLite Expert Personal are nice but a crippled and resource hungry... i'm looking for a decent alternative to SQLiteSpy anyone knows ?

Thanks for the info. I've been wanting to try some of these, but there are so many listed. I'll give SQLiteSpy a try first.

Have you tried SQLUniform? Opens any database because It's written in Java. I have tried it with sqlserver, access, sqlite, and others, and works fine: you can open the database tables, edit them, make queries, modify tables, stored procedures... and it's free!

http://www.sqluniform.com/

have you try heidiSQL(MySQL), SquirrelSQL, AnySQL Maestro?

Many thanks, AnySQL Maestro is really an Hot Find !!! Any way to open sqlite databases with this one ?

MySQL Workbench is a good tool, too.

I tried LyteRAD CE and found it is a good start but has major deficiencies.

The reporting is inadequate. Even though it has a wizard to set the size, etc of columns, it doesn't work - all columns are set the same. Data doesn't wrap when it is longer than the column and there is no way to set for that.

The application is written in Java and takes a long time to load.

With further development, this could be a good tool. But, as it stands, it is not ready for prime time.

DBEdit 2
A light weight database editing tool for Oracle, DB2 and MySQL. Free and open source.

Best free RAD for MySQL is SQLYog Community edition.

Why not use SQL-Express ?

Because its editing sucks?

I have just discovered Toad by Quest. It is excellent and totally free. Create either local or online databases, compare and synchronize them, etc etc. Just the job and very easy to use. http://www.quest.com/toad-for-mysql/

Seconded. And Quest's toad data analysis.

According to information on their website, the free edition is limited to 10 fields in a table, and a maximum of 2000 records. See http://www.lytecube.com/products/lyteRAD/featr_matrix.html for a full comparison between the free and paid editions.

Do you have any other recommendations ?
