Thanks #12. I am also a Lotus Notes user and was on the verge of uninstalling AnVir until I saw your tip. It worked for me also.
No Worries mate. It's good to find, resolve and share the solutions to help other people.
I downloaded this freebie from GOTD,.. installed OK and also running OK.. When I click on "help" tab on the toolbar and then click on "about", it shows that the free updates are available only until 2009/10/01. How can this be passed of as a genuine "give away" with such a short shelf life of only two weeks.
Does anybody else have this showing on their help file or is it just me ?
Have you registered it using through this site?: http://dottech.org/freebies/dottech-exclusives/7292
Free updates still work though, I just updated mine with no problems (not using GOTD installer).
Everything's OK now,.. that "free updates until 2009/10/01" problem has been resolved.
I'm a real dummy,.. I didn't realise that the GOTD registration key was hiding behind the "about" window. When I closed the "about" window, the registration key was there so I clicked on the appropriate button and bingo !.. the "free updates until 2009/10/01" disappeared and I now have a fully registered and function great freebie.
Did you registered it during the give away period if not then use the link given below in one of the comments and register. Mine shows "Register to: giveawayoftheday"
I've had n0thing but tr0uble with GOTD cr4p. Half the time, they use some kind of special installer; and half of THOSE times, that special installer bre4ks Windows in such a way that if you uninstall the GOTD version of whatever is the software, and then re-install a brand new version which you purchase directly from the maker, whatever GOTD did to Windows to enforce its one-day-only thing sometimes keeps the new, paid for software from working.
To this day, I cannot get SWF Quicker (which I originally installed as a GOTD) to work. The reason, I suspect, is that I tried to install the GOTD version about four hours after the day ended (even though I downloaded it during the day), and GOTD's installer did something to my machine that will, forever, make it impossible for me to ever use even a paid-for version of SWF Quicker.
And no one at GOTD will even respond to my requests for help/information.
And no one at SWF Quicker's maker has been able to help. Their tech support is actually fairly useless, just generallly.
So, now, I'm actually 4FRAID to install anything from GOTD because I don't want it br3aking anything else in my copy of Vista.
Personally, I would ask Ian (Gizmo) to contact GOTD and tell them that if they're going to treat Gizmo's regulars like that, then Gizmo may stop posting anything about GOTD downloads.
But that's just me.

I agree 100% with DesElms. I manage/moderate 'promotions and giveaways' sections on two forums and refuse to include anything from the GOTD site.
Just about everything they list is limited in some way or comes with some sort of stipulation. Besides which, seeing as how just about every man and his dog who chase these types of promotions visit GOTD daily, can they really be labeled 'Hot Finds'?
Truly you guys (and gals) who manage Gizmo's terrific site...don't you reckon it might be time for a rethink on the policy of allowing GOTD items to be posted here??
JIM
Happy to follow Gizmo's recommendations, as and when...
I posted this Hot Find - as with others involving GOTD - because I felt it could be useful. As it turns out, this particular post has had the unexpected result of drawing attention to a Hot Find freebie from a while back which appears still to be valid.
Oh dear... Personally, I have quite a collection of useful software acquired via GOTD on my Vista PC. But I've been very selective about what I install from GAOTD and have always done it within the time limit. When I didn't know the software on offer, I generally tried it out first on a virtual platform using Returnil. That would be my recommendation when using GOTD.
Yes, the installation/activation process can be tedious and occasionally I haven't been able to get a reputable program to work (despite appropriate technical requirements), though I didn't try contacting GOTD for support.
That's about the worst that's happened to me... much less severe than the h4ssles I've had with some standard, highly reputable software installs! But I've been cautious and no doubt lucky too.
I must agree with you on that. I have been trying to install a few programs from gaotd and my nav 2010 blocks all of them. I am not a norton shill but it looks like norton saved my pc a few times.
Thanks for this GIZMO. But there is a problem with this giveaway. You have to install the software in the "give away period" and as i am at work and can't reach home before the expiry of this offer so that means i can't use it in my home PC. Once you have downloaded and got the key then it should be installed and validated at any time. That's the only drawback with this offer.
Also when i installed on my work PC then i am unable to use Lotus Notes so i am uninstalling it anyways.
Yeah that "give away period" is Giveaway of the Day's thing always.
Anyhow, you can get the same program anytime at DotTech:

Thanks Steve for pointing out this earlier Hot Find is still valid - I've revised the article to draw this freebie offer to other visitors' attention.
Bob
lol I saw that earlier Hot Find and did not notice that it was linking to the same page I was.
I got to it through Ashraf's review for the Giveaway item.
Anyhow, it is cleared up and still free through the Hot find.
Steve
Thanks a ton. You guys are doing a great job. The problem which i mentioned on my previous comment, regarding Lotus Notes, is resolved now. I unselected the "Show additional icons in the title of windows" from Options - Windows Enhacements which solved the issue. Thanks. Sandeep.
