AntiVir Premium and Suite Free

Hi

AntiVir is well known for being an excellent antivirus, but the free version does not detect spyware/adware, only the paid Premium version.

But here are two promotional offers for a free one month license for the full Premium version:

https://license.avira.com/en/promotion-t0q1aatr05zwftftgnqr

https://license.avira.com/de/promotion-6788wuyfuyluz7c2sa7z

Apply  for one license then apply for the second license when the first license expires. That way you should get 2 months for free.

Note: The second link is to a German language page but the application form is identical to the English form in the link above so you should have no trouble completing it.

You can use the same approach to get the full AntiVir Premium Suite, not just the scanner, free for 12 months.

Apply for one of these four free three month promotional licenses, and then apply for another one as each license expires.

The links are:

https://license.avira.com/en/promotion-hylm9fbv7chaxs8zbl83

https://license.avira.com/de/promotion-j0mhc32ccgdwatzey42z

Thats 12 months for free (unless the offer expires)!

Thanks to Keyur for posting this information!

 Addendum

I just had an email from regular contributor Rick Farrow:

" I noticed something in the 90 day avira security suite promo that may or may not need to be addressed.  If Avira still handles licenses as they did a few months ago the promo period begins to run when the license is received in your email, not when it is installed.  Just thought I would give you a heads up in case everyone downloads from all for links hoping to get a year of avira security suite but finding all 4 of their licenses expire on the same day if they request all four at the same time.

If this is how avira handles their licenses maybe it would be better for people to just bookmark the other free links and ask for those licenses at their appropriate time.  Also, Avira has a registry and program cleaner that will need to be ran so they cannot detect that a person just finished a license.  Those cleaners are on the Avira site on the page at the below link. "

Thanks JonathanT

Until I switched to Symantec's sweet new Norton Antivirus Gaming Edition (absolutely the lightest, fastest AV available, <6mb on my system)I used Avira Premium and a trial license for over a year; just providing a new fictional name and email address each time on their site and receiving a new 90-day license, downloaded directly from their site. They obviously know that this is happening & don't care or they would stop it (unless they thought that the name Iva Bigg-Willy and youwant@it.net was real). I don't have the url in front of me but it was in connection with some magazine offer that I found while googling.

Another option of a great free antivirus program is avast! which is excellent in many aspects. You can read more about avast at www.freewarepick.blogspot.com

It cost me £10.36 to update to the Premium Software for 1 year - I consider that money well spent - there are days when I get 7 or 8 updates to the database.

I enjoy reading the various comments, please keep up the good work.

Hello one and all.

Just a quick question that I'm hoping someone can put me right on...

A couple of months ago I tried the Avira anti-Virus freebie and recently the premium suite as above and both times after only a few days the update scheduler fails to load, hence no updates either manual or auto'.

I've even tried using a previous 'ghost' snapshot of the harddrive when the programe was okay but still no update scheduler....

Has anyone else seen this problem and managed to find the answer?

cheers

ps. excellent site Gizmo.

Hi Gizmo and all.
Thanks for the great links Gizmo, Works a treat! Just wanted to know after running the registy and program cleaner at the end of 1st license do i have to use the same info i did on the first link or do i use a different e-mail ect?.
Many thanks S.
ps. Keep up the brilliant work.

Hi
You can use the same E mail address and info in all four links... they all are different..

The trials are very short, so I'm fine sticking with the free version rather than bothering to uninstall the free, download the paid, and then uninstall the paid when my trial is up.

Also, although Avira is the best antivirus, the suite isn't the best. The firewall and other guards are very weak in tests.

Why go to all this trouble when you can obtain a copy of AVG v8 antivirus software which includes antispyware detection for free - permanently.

Thanks for the info, Gizmo! When these expire, I will probably buy the full version if all goes well.........thanks-r0b ^_^

Bait and switch is what I felt. Free antivirus but only for a short period of time? Doesn't sound all that free.

Get over yourselves: Vendors run "free trials"---So we will buy.

I've been running Avira Free for a couple years, and yes, I am very happy with it. I've even looked at their site (O.K.-often) and wondered if the "Premium Suite" is really worth it.

All this time I've had my wife's computer on Z--e A---m and have been increasingly disappointed. The more resources they got the more bloated and imprecise the product became.

So, Gizmo--Here's a, "Good-On-Ya!" And I hope The Red and White umbrellas are safe to be under, 'cause cousin I'm gonna be under them--for a whole year for free.

By then I'll know if I can trust them as much as they want me to.

You do realize that what you're proposing effectively amounts to a scam since you're attempting to exploit trust loopholes in various trial programs.

It might work - but it's still not a very cool thing to do. At least not for the type of person that visits TSA.

A scam? For documenting a publicly available offer? How bizarre.

Vendors make these offers so folks will try their products. Most vendors would hold the view that the more users who take advantage of these free offers, the more will buy when the free trial expires.

So rather than "scamming" Avira we are doing them a favor.

Gizmo

I can only say thanks avira is a very good product my last licence expired in October and I thought I would look at what is out there Todate Kaspesky lasted 3 days Bitdefender not much better sunbelt Vipre 15 days a vert good product AVG to slow and lots of false calls again 3 days.am back with avira for 3 moths before I look at nod32.

We don't agree. There is no particular "type of TSA" visitor; we are open to all.
We certainly have absolutely no moral agenda.
We attempt to provide (we prefer "exchange") disinterested information about software to anyone who visits ... for free. What use that information is put to is not really our concern.

Hi
yes I have noticed that... and you will get 1 year free only if avira will last these offers till 1 year....
let see...

Since Jonathan posted this item it looks like Avira have changed their trial period for the Avira anti-virus scanner (the first two links above) from six months to one month. However the trial period for the full suite (the last four links above) has been left unchanged at three months.

Such is life.

Gizmo

Thanks a bunch, Gizmo. No doubt some will complain about the change, when they should realize that you can't control what companies do to their trial offers. I appreciate the chance to try their products for free, & I REALLY appreciate you and your blog for alerting me to the opportunity.
