Anonymous?
There's something thats been concerning me for some time about this site - the large number of postings by 'Anonymous'. I am concerned about the quality and provenance of such postings. This is the only forum I use that doesn't require posters to register.
Quite a few responses to posts come from the developers of software and whilst I generally value their input and interest, I do think that they should take the trouble to register. Many appear to be upfront in showing their status or qualifications, as for instance the developer of Titan backup, but we don't know who isn't telling us their interest in the products being recommended.
I'd like to feel that I know if a developer recommends a product it is a genuine recommendation. I'm aware that a registration process is no guarantee of anything, but it is a start.

We keep this issue under review. Our current thinking is that because Registration is so easy to fake, it offers no guarantee of provenance. We prefer to operate completely out-in-the-open, to have as few rules as possible, and to allow our vistors to make up their own minds about what is posted. In practice, we see remarkably few abusive or rule-breaking posts ... and believe this is a price worth paying for (almost) free debate. We'll have to see whether we can maintain this policy when we launch our new Forum.
