Annotate Files

Looking something that allows me to write a brief note to describe ANY file or folder - a Summary Sheet similar that which .exe's, jpg's and mp3's have in their Properties, would be ideal. Would not object if note went into an ADS.

Must work on W2000, XP and VISTA

You can also check out Xplorer2

Alt-Z is the shortcut to add a comment. In Details View you can have the Comments Column shown.
(these features do work in the Lite version.)

Thanks -

I am more than a little embarrassed in admitting to being a long time user of xplorer2 - never knew about Control Z. Exactly what I wanted

Is this the sort of thing you are looking for:

Not sure if this can be achieved by using another File Manager though. Maybe Michael who writes that editorial can put his thought to us on this.

I had not realised the column had gone - but all this does is to put it back - now I need something to allow me to enter comments for a folder

Well I have tried this and this is a column that I am sure isn't there and this allows it to be created. I have tried it and it works fine. When you enter your comments into the property box, those comments are then displayed into the column, whether its for a file or folder.

what property sheet do you use to enter comments on folder

or most other files - eg a txt file doesn't seem to have a property sheet with comments

Why don't you use an outline with a classic directory dump ? Keynote works for me (95, 98, NT, ME, 2000, XP, Vista).

because that would separate the meta data from the subject data, which would probably result in the meta data not being kept up to date, nor would its existence be apparent to anyone looking at the subject data.
