Animate Your Images with ArtStudio (Expired)
May 20, 2009
ArtStudio 1.2.1 is free today, May 20, ONLY on Give Away Of The Day (GAOTD)
Today's give away from GAOTD looks enticing. This program lets you create animations from your own image files and was very popular the last time it was given away just a few months ago, when it was also enthusiatically reviewed by Ashraf.
If the idea appeals and you've got a recent enough computer for the program to do its stuff (and you'll need to have Microsoft's Net 2.0 platform and DirectX 9), why not grab this commercial software for free today while you can.
Developer's description:
Corner-A ArtStudio is powerful animation software that can bring to life boring static images. ArtStudio has a lot of build-in filters, it has hardware acceleration support, various export possibilities and simple interface - you don’t need to be an artist or designer to use ArtStudio. There are a lot of “screen-saver-makers” on the market, there are a lot of animation programs, but who else can give you extreme realtime perfomance with simplest interface?
Features:
* All effect are hardware processed with video accelerator card.
* Light and easy interface: all filters are simply drawn with mouse.
* More than 20 built-in filters will help you to animate water, clouds, smoke and create other natural and abstract effects.
* Result can be saved as screensaver (scr), standalone executable file (exe), flash animation (swf), gif animation (gif) or images sequence (bmp, jpg, or png).
* No professional designer or artists skills required, almost everyone can animate favourite picture with ArtStudio.

says my system doesn't support pixel shader 2.0. Does that mean I need a different grafics card?
yes, I think so - sorry mate
This thing is really cool :-)
I installed it from gaotd last time, but lost it after a hard drive failure. Am glad to have it again.
Question: Does anyone know of any freeware apps that will allow my to set my animated picture as my wallpaper?? Thanks -steve
You can export it as a GIF animation and set the file as your desktop.
Or you can export it into a video, and use VLC Media Player to set it as your wallpaper. There's also Windows DreamScene. Instructions on VLC here: http://pcsplace.com/fun/how-to-set-a-video-as-wall-paper-of-desktop/
There may be other ways, but this is all I know of.
Hmm, maybe someone else can suggest something... I've googled around and checked the Best Free Wallpaper Changer page edited by Jojo Yee (http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/best-free-wallpaper-changer.htm)
BTW, not quite what you were looking for, but do you know Drempels? It's a sort of psychedelic freeware desktop animator:
