What about free e-books for the Nook?

by Sea Mac on 19. January 2014 - 6:36  (113721)

You may already know of this site:

The University of Virgina has a VERY OLD, and now abandoned in place, library of selected Hypertexts ... a few of which are good reads.

The link is old, and very obscure: I saw some DUST fall off when I first clicked on it! http://xroads.virginia.edu/~HYPER/main.html

(Darn I hate to see a project RUSTING in cyberspace like this .... :( )

When WAS that page last updated, anyway? I suspect it originated about the era of Windows 3.1 ~~~~~ 'cause that URL is very 'DOS like' ....

www.topfreebooks.org provides freely downloadable eBooks, documents courses and lecture notes found all over the internet.

Thanks. I have bookmarked and will add in on next update.

It will be added to the Free Courses Online pages here (which is a very good resource also) as well as some of the other pages here.

I echo the request for a section on arts and crafts.

by mr6n8 on 17. November 2013 - 11:08  (112287)

I finally have put up a free ebook, and written instruction, page for Arts & Crafts and Hobbies.

Hopefully, I will get the video instruction page up soon.

In the section Free eBooks & Audiobooks By Genre, I would like to see a section for books on arts and crafts - can that be done? I find it very difficult to find free ebooks in these genres.

Thanks

I have seen some listings for that at sites and thought about it during my latest round of updates on ebooks. I do not have much time as of now, but I will see what I can do.

As of April 19, 2013, all pages have been updated and all links have been checked with LinkChecker and are working.

I will be unavailable for most of the time during the next month and usually will not be able to respond to posts.

However, I will be back after that, so any new sites or corrections to the listings that you post would be appreciated even though I may not be able to respond when you post.

Great and useful list.
Thanks for sharing.

I have a blog, Free (and semi-free) Literary Books for the Kindle (US & UK)
http://www.ClassicKindle.com

I feature out of copyright works. Now the most recent book featured was .99 - but that is the first time in probably a year that I wrote about a book that was not free. It is the second volume of Proust. The first volume is free and that is how they hook you! : )

Thank you for considering my blog. It appeals to a narrow readership, but those who like out of copyright books have nowhere else to go to find books that are not the same top 100 and which have been vetted for conversion problems.

by mr6n8 on 18. February 2013 - 9:21  (105517)

I already have that site listed at 97 Places For Free Kindle eBooks Online (Legally) as Kindle Classics Blogspot.

Also in the main page 672 Places For Free eBooks Online under the same name.

If you want the name, or description, changed let me know.

Thanks for maintaining that site.

Steve, I think you should also make a similar consolidated list of all your torrent articles. It will really be helpful to find them in one place, and users will become more aware of them :).

by mr6n8 on 17. February 2013 - 18:27  (105502)

I will think about that. I have to figure out the best way to show.

Thanks

Maybe I am the only one who cares but I sure would like to see a category for "Philosophy Books" The are NOT "Religion and Spirituality" books. That may be too technical a division for many of the website owners you list but it would sure help. There is a vast difference between the topic of revealed faith and belief compared to reason. If fact St Thomas Aquinas carefully worked out the difference at the start of his Summa Theologiae 800 years ago based on sound, deductive reasoning.

Pardon the lecture; I could have just said "Gee Whiz! A category for Philosopy Books would be nice." :)

I also appreciate the hard work to collect this sort of thing. It is not easy to keep up to the minute with it because websites come and go. Thank you!

by mr6n8 on 17. February 2013 - 14:00  (105497)

Somewhere in the back of my mind is the thought that I started a Philosophy page, but could not find enough sites. Reasoning is not that popular.

I will take another look around after this round of updates as it is a good area that deserves a page.

Thanks. I am always looking for new ideas.

Steve.

EDIT: I take that back. A quick search finds quite a few sites. I will get a page up soon.

by bwoods on 18. February 2013 - 12:52  (105519)

"Reasoning is not that popular."

LOL I love it!

by mr6n8 on 20. February 2013 - 19:47  (105621)

I am glad someone gets my humor.

The page is now up: 29 Places For Free Philosophy eBooks, Audiobooks & Courses Online

Great list of free books. Libraries help our minds to stay fresh. Knowledge is power. But the right use of that power where good and evil divide.
