5 Great File Converters
Make converting things easier with these 5 online file converters.
There must be bazillions (technical term<g>) of converters online. Finding the ones that work well and are easy to use could be a full time job. Smashing apps has compiled a short but good list.
All are good picks with Convert Hub and Zamzar having the clearest interfaces, though all are easy to use.
- PDF to Excel does just that - converts PDF files to Excel files. It would be nice to see other file extensions from applications like OpenOffice supported but for now its .xls files.
- Convert Hub is a nice surprise. In addition to converting most graphics images it also converts icon files (.ico) and postscript files.
- Zamzar has been around for years and converts all types of files. Just about all document files are supported including OpenOffice and Microsoft Publisher (ever tried to convert or save a Publisher file? If so you will love Zamzar). Several image formats are supported, as are music, video, CAD and compressed formats.
- Comet docs has you send them a file and they send the converted file back to you via email. They guarantee your email address will never be sold, rented or provided to any third party.
- Media Converter is an online video and audio conversion tool. You can download and convert videos from platforms like Youtube and watch them a mobile device or computer.
There's a Firefox add on for Media Converter, handy if you use Firefox and download files often.

It's all well and good about them not selling our e-mail address, but what about a file sent in to be converting if it's of a propritary nature?
That's my concern. - Chugs
@chugs - what are you referencing that's of proprietary nature?
For example, Zamzar won't convert a DRM protected audio file in MP3 or any other format.
"- Comet docs has you send them a file and they send the converted file back to you via email. They guarantee our email address will never be sold, rented or provided to any third party."
It's nice that they guarantee that your email address will never be sold, ..., but what about other users; or should users make sure to specify your email address? Ha ha.
I assume that it's just a typo. error, where "our email address" is really to be "your email address", which would mean that Comet promises that the email address of any visitor to Comet's site will never be "sold, ... to any third party". So once the typo. is corrected, then the second sentence (quoted) is to read, "They guarantee (that) your email address will never be ...".

Heh, yep that was a typo on my end. Thanks for catching it Mike. Its been one of those weeks. = )
