$25 BitDefender Antivirus 2010 Free for 24 hours (Expired)
This offer has now expired. However we recommend these other free anti virus programs
This is advance notice of a special 24 hour promotion by the popular UK website v3.co.uk that starts midday CEST Friday 13 August. As I write the promotion has yet to start I can't confirm the exact details and must rely on the promotional blurb on the V3 website.
On face value it looks like you can download the full commercial $25 version of BitDefender Anti-Virus 2010 for free for a 24 hour period. There is also an upgrade offer to the full 2011 Security Suite details of which have yet to be announced.
In the Feb 2010 on-demand tests over at AV Comparatives BitDefender 2010 AC achieved an Advanced + rating, the highest category. This puts it in the same category as Avast!, Avira and Microsoft Security Essentials. In the AV Comparatives May 2010 retrospective/proactive tests it again achieved an Advanced + rating which suggests that it is a good performer detecting new threats as well as detecting existing ones.
So why would you install it when Avast!, Avira and Microsoft Security Essentials will give you similar performance and are always free? Furthermore they will still be free in 2011 when your BitDefender license expires.
I can see several reasons:
First the other products may not work well on your PC.
Second you may personally like BitDefender
Third, if you have more than one PC it's often a good idea to run different security products on each.PC. That way you scan downloads using different products
Whatever, it's your call.
The full promotional piece is below.

Is there a way to get these as email alerts? I keep missing these freebies!

What a piece of crap. This software is a CPU and memory hog. Once you install it, do you think it would be easy to uninstall? NOT!! Couldn't wait to get rid of it. Luckily it was free because I don't know what I would have done if I paid for this junk !!
well, I had the same experience as you do.
I have to uninstall it the day after I install it.
Well, may be it happens only to some of us.
Your experience does not match the test results.

I wonder if anyone would mind telling me how long they had to wait for their serial number?
I got my download - small internet based - and also the link to the page for my serial number. After filling it in and sending it off I received nothing. it is approaching 24 hours since applying for the serial number and nothing has appeared in my inbox.
Did other people experience a delay?
It is of little consequence now that the offer has expired and there is no way of reaching the serial key page. I can always go and fret about something else like flooding and distress in Asia.
The key popped into my inbox this morning at 06.31 BST.
Good to know :). Sometimes, it takes a while before the mail reaches you... in cases of registration.
In Belgium, it all worked flawlessly. You don't have to uninstall your previous AV either, just disable it. Don't forget to disable its services and startup also. Bitdefender works perfectly on my Win 7 (32). If you got your key, you can install anytime, even next month if you wish. Thanks for the hotfind!
Had to sign up twice, finally installed it (annoying that u could not download the file as an install file- only install from internet!), lot of faffing around...seemed to be working all right....'cept the prog dragged down all my system resources, fans and cpu were maxing out......everything else running extremely slowly....most disturbing thing though was that the internet connection was cosntantly open! The only explanation i can see was that it was stealling data of this computer......extremely dodgy! i'll be up half the night now now trying to figure out what has been stolen....
Offer worked great for me. Thanks for telling us about the free anti-virus program!
Gizmo now that this offer has closed I'd like to make a comment.
I may be wrong but it seems to me that every time you offer commercial software for free you always seem to get a a batch of negatives comments from people who say they can't download it, didn't get their license, the offer is a scam, the program broke their computer etc.
I've noticed the same thing on other sites. It seems these free offers drag out of the woodwork a whole bunch of freeloaders with bad attitude. The kind that believes the world owes them a living.
Might I suggest you stop running these offers and leave them to other sites. Most of the people who use Gizmo's Freeware leave comments that are polite and helpful. We don't want these freeloaders and their petty, negative and self centered comments. Let them go elsewhere.

I downloaded, unloaded AVGfree per instructions and installed ... entered license key, etc. BitDefender could not scan or update because of "incomplete installation". After 2 reinstalls everything works fine except it tells me now that my license key will expire in 2 days!!
What now? I'm using XP on a laptop.
... and now all of a sudden it decides I have 365 days after all :-/

Downloaded and installed. My computer then started on a cycle of rebooting over and over again. Started in safe mode but could not uninstall. Only way to fix was to system restore to before installation.
This program did not play well with pctools firewall.
p.s. I had disabled PCtools anti-virus, phishing etc and had only the firewall enabled.
No Thanks!!
It is necessary to completely uninstall all other antivirus software first, not just disable it.
Disaster - downloaded and installed and immediately my Win7 system started acting strangely - way slow, progs not responding etc. Couldn't get into safe mode and repair option on the original Win7 disc did nothing to help so here I am just finishing doing a reinstall of a system that was working perfectly before I installed this - never again!
I'm based in San Francisco and it worked like a charm. Quick response too - got my serial arrived within 30 seconds.
Just follow the instructions outlined by greensooccer13!
I just checked this again, and the offer is working now. Seems like they have fixed it... must have been a mistake. Now, when I go to the link to get the serial code, I get the page where I can enter name and email.
So, those who are interested, go for it :P
Worked like a charm for me too. I did the same as greensoccer13. It is close to noon time on the East coast here in the good ole U.S.A. and all went well and got activation code quickly.
No problem to get...
Create store account, login, download software, and follow link at bottom of page to get code...
what that mean, that's for UK users? i'm not from UK.
Read #55945 & #55946
I'm in Canada.
Downloaded, installed, activated, no problem.
Just spent half hour plus on this. It's time to pull this offer off Gizmo.
Fran McIntire was unfortunately completely correct about the United Kingdom limitation. I do not blame Gizmo for the bait and switch they are pulling on the rest of the world. He had no way of knowing.
When I click the link for the for the serial code at the bottom of the page:
How To Get Your Serial Code
Download the BitDefender Antivirus 2010 build from this store and go to http://www.bitdefender.co.uk/site/Promotions/free24hours/ to get your serial code. Your serial code is valid for 1-PC for 1-Year.
This message pops up:
Thank you for your interest, but this promotion is only available for United Kingdom users. However, you can benefit from our special offer for Internet Security
Am I at the right spot?
This is what I saw when I attempted to download this software from the US:
"Thank you for your interest, but this promotion is only available for United Kingdom users. However, you can benefit from our special offer for Internet Security."
I'll keep looking for another link.
I take it back; the download link is working for the good ole USA! And yes, I did create a store account as another poster advised. This time when I logged in and went to the BitDefender offer, there was a download button instead of "info". Thanks Gizmo for telling us about the freebie :)
I too got the same message as other two users have reported. I got this, when I go to the link from where it says that the serial will be given. The link leads to BitDefender site where this message is displayed :
"Thank you for your interest, but this promotion is only available for United Kingdom users. However, you can benefit from our special offer for Internet Security."
If the offer was for UK only, why didn't the V3 Store mentioned it? I think its very unfair.
