Introduction

It's a real plus to be able to collect your Hotmail, Yahoo! or other Webmail using your POP3 email client. It used to be simple, but these days most Webmail services only provide POP3 access for premium paid accounts. However, it's still possible to do this by using a special utility designed for the job. I'm a new editor to this section, and I'm in the process of updating the article and adding new content so please bear with me. |

If you use Yahoo! mail then head straight for YPOPs! This allows you to download your Yahoo webmail from within a POP3 email client such as Outlook, Thunderbird or Eudora. It's free, easy to set up using the instructions on the web site, and is simple to use. I use it on multiple Yahoo accounts and it works wonderfully. The most recent update is 0.9.7.3 which has fixed some memory corruptions although this was in 2009. The change log via the test forum can be found here forums.ypopsemail.com/ypops-windows-0-9-7-3-released-t3978.html The second suggestion is a utility called FreePOPs. It's a much more flexible product than YPOPs! and will download mail from HotMail, AOL, Yahoo!, Juno, Libero and a myriad of other webmail services. Its power and flexibility can confuse new users, but thankfully there is a clearly written tutorial for beginners. FreePOPS is for receiving email only and has no sending capabilities. A third possibility is MrPostman which offers similar functionality to FreePOPs and allows access to email accounts on MS Exchange 5.5 as well. It needs a bit of fiddling to work correctly, but this link will help. My only reservation is that product development seems to have ceased. Note that MrPostman requires the Java Runtime Environment to be installed on your PC. Another webmail accessory you might find useful is POP Peeper, a free utility that lets you know when new mail arrived in your Webmail account. It installs a little tray icon that alerts you to new mail in your Hotmail, MSN, Yahoo, Mail.com, MyWay, Excite, Lycos.com, or RediffMail accounts. It's particularly useful for users who have multiple webmail services. It won't though, download your mail to your POP3 email client. To do that you need one of the products above. It does however, allow you to read and even respond to your mail within the product without opening your email program. This makes it very attractive to Webmail users who don't use a regular email client such as Outlook or Thunderbird. |

Maybe this is not for this category but my mail monitor is Trillian chat messenger. I am frequently notified depending on my settings and a click of the particular email icon in the trillian tray will open myd efault browser and sign into the email account automatically. I also get a brief preview of the email before I decide to go to it. I currently have 10 email accounts monitored with Trillian and have never had any issue.
After trying to use ypops to no avail, I settled on the webmail extension for thunderbird and it worked perfectly
Magic Mail Monitor's hard to beat (imo)

POP Peeper is excellent - not only because you can preview mail from several places but also because you can reply and/or send mail. Very handy if on the move and away from your usual machine.
Pop Peeper has been having a lot of issues lately with retrieving mail from Comcast.
thank you very much for the mentioned softwares...solved my problem

If you have an email account with yahoo.com, an alternative to YPOPs is to retreive your email from the yahoo.co.uk server using the same user ID and password as your yahoo.com account.
Can you give some further instructions on how to do it, please?
In New Zealand the Xtra ISP arm of Telecom has partnered with Yahoo and users with a XTRA email address are automatically considered as Premium users and can use additional Yahoo facilities, which appears to include the ability to automatically download emails from a non-premium Yahoo account into the web-mailable Xtra account.
Note that I haven't used this facility yet as I download via the UK as above but would be interested in any reports of success.
There is also Hotmail Popper, current version is not free. There is a free version out on the web. I use YPOP and and paid version of Hotmail Popper.
find it here>> http://www.321download.com/LastFreeware/page8.html#Hotmail%20Popper
POP Peeper is just the tool I was looking for because it handles both Pop3 and IMAP mail based accounts. Great way to get notification and/or read mail without having to access web mail or IMAP mail systems. Outstanding!
