Display Color Calibration Wizard in Windows 7

This utility helps you to calibrate your screen using your monitor’s display controls as well as various Windows settings. With Display Color Calibration, you can configure gamma, brightness, contrast, color balance, and other settings, all of which are explained in the on-screen descriptions.

One way to open Display Color Calibration is from Control Panel-Appearance and Personalization-Display. A quicker way is to type “dccw” (without quotes) in the Start menu search box and press Enter. Display Color Calibration opens as a full-screen application that leads you through various steps of adjusting your display.

On this link:

you can find a nice flash on-line utility for calibration of your monitor (move your mouse to the top of monitor to get controls). You can also download this calibration utility as a EXE program so you can use it whenever you want.

OK, but this one doesn't give much indication to what is good and what is not. Mostly with the colors, you can only go by personal taste.

There are only two options: human eye or hardware calibration device (mechanical eye like this - http://www.mccordweb.com/e-newsletters/tech-notes/images/Monitor-Cal.jpg). You'll never get hardware device for free so the only way to go is using your own eyes.

This one is pretty good. Probably nothing like a pro tool, but after using it I did have better colors on my new LG LED monitor.
