The iPad has become one of the most successful tablet computers in the market since the device was launched by Apple in April 2010. As it runs the same mobile operating system, iOS, as the iPhone, most apps designed for the iPhone would work on the iPad. If optimized, they work even better on the larger screen of the iPad.

Jojo, I majored in mathematics and I highly recommend Hicalc Calculator as the best calculator on iOS, after comparing many other competitors. The free version lacks some features like base converter and statistics, but its scientific calculator is the most powerful I have seen. I have not found another calculator which can calculate differential, integration, evaluation, summation, product, and even find root for a function! It can be very helpful for learners of calculus. It supports complex number as well. It has many finance formulas inside. Well I don't think I can enumerate all of its features... Just give a try.
Very good suggestion wyf88. It's now added to the list.
Where is Flipboard? It's great for RSS.
Flipboard is better than Pulse for much persons.
Thanks for your comment John III. Flipboard was added under the Social Networking category. It's now reclassified.
It appears that 'Secure my Privacy' and 'Omnicalc' are no longer free.
Thanks and both are now delisted.
The classsic pinball game on your list is not free
Oops it looks like the app has turned commercial but now we have another choice "Pinball HD Collection" on the list. Thanks for pointing out Wolf.
CloudOn is only available in North America and a couple of other places. Do you have a second choice office suite that is universally available.
I'm guessing that after a month waiting there isn't a 2nd best Office suite type App.I'll take a look elsewhere.
My cellphone messages route to my email as AMR files when I'm travelling. I use Pazera Audio Extractor to convert to MP3 so I can listen to them at my convenience without the expence of calling home. Is there something similar as an iPad APP that converts audio files to other audio files??
How about PaperPort Notes? http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/paperport-notes/id476134017
It takes my dictation nicely. Navigation and editing does take some getting used to.
Vic
A good recommendation Vic. It now makes the list go up to 100 apps.
I have been looking all over for a simple music notation app in which I can just jot down musical ideas on manuscript paper by clicking on lines or spaces on a screen and drawing the notes, or by playing notes on a virtual keyboard or even using the text keyboard and having notes appear on MS paper, or by dragging notes to the paper right on the screen. Does anyone know of anything like this?
Jojoyee, consider adding Jetpack Joyride . Game of the Year 2011 for iPad and iPhone. :-)
Gamasutra Mobile Game of 2011 - TUAW Best iPhone Game of 2011 - UGO iOS Game of the Year - George.J Mobile Game of the year :-)
A good choice George J. Added to the list.
In search of my holy grail:
An App that meshes contacts and agenda (like I had in my nokia)
What I'm looking for: When I receive a call, to be able to automaticaly setup an appointment (with contact data from the caller) and have that appointment linked to the contact..... Is it something so dificult????
Best free word game for the iPad: "Words with friends HD Free"?
True if English is your native language. But what about other languages?
I'm from Belgium and my native language is Dutch. I've been searching for word games in my own language for ages. (At least it feels like that ;-)
Then, some weeks ago, I stumbled upon the app "Wordfeud" (http://itunes.apple.com/nl/app/wordfeud/id428312806).
Currently it allows you to play the word game in English, French, Spanish, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, and Danish.
Against random opponents or friends from your contact list.
On the iPhone or iPod Touch. But also on the iPad: run it in 2x-mode and then zoom out to see the whole board on your screen. The board and the tiles are nicely (not just 2x) rendered.
It's an app I open every time I take my iPad in my hands.
Best free "international" word game for the iPad? Wordfeud! (Ad supported)
WordFeud is now iPad compatible.
A good choice Geert. Added to the list.
boombastica is a new game that is free for iPad: http://itun.es/iBc4DZ
A good suggestion Jesse Lindsley. This game has now joined the list.
Absolute Vintage Studio appears to not be free now
Thanks GranK for your feedback. It now has a free Lite version with the basic features unchanged except that the paid version has more choices for frames and different human bodies. Updated now on the list.
unfortunately Stanza doesnt work with iOS 5, and since amazon purchased it, it doesnt appear that there is any kind of update on the horizon...it was quickly my favorite ereader on the ipad, but sadly it seems it is no more...
Snooker club is no longer free. Thought I'd let you know. :)
Thanks Lisa for the info. It's now removed and replaced with another on the list.
Chess apps: I consider Stockfish to be the best free app, at least for non-beginners. Nice interface, very good playing strength, no ads, no encouraging for buying a "Pro" version. Good for analysis of positions you can set up. Chess.com is good, but you are often encouraged to upgrade.
Good suggestion Dlira. Added Stockfish Chess to the list.
For best free card games category you should also include "FreeCell Free" it's made by the same maker as Solitaire on your list - MobilityWare.
It's been my favourite game on Windows and now I have it on the iPad as well.
