If using task killer for closing just one or two apps then its fine but mostly people open task killer and press kill all task which does more harm
and most of time it depends on the user...if he/she thinks it will help than he/she will do it regardless any info

by Mesen on 1. January 2012 - 19:42  (86351)

You're right about PowerAMP, Link2SD and Titanium Backup but GMX Mail is english and very useful. GMX Mail was elected best in this site.

Appreciated your feedback and many suggestions Mesen. TaskPanel XTRA is now replaced with Advanced Task Killer in this list. Any.DO has been commented at this post.

Update: MX Video Player is a good suggestion and added to the list.

Why u still havent tested avast ?

by Jojo Yee on 2. January 2012 - 15:25  (86415)

This probably will take us some time to look into as we have more choices of security apps now in the market. Other than Lookout which has been widely used and Avast which was recently officially released as you've mentioned, there're also many others which are worth our attention such as below:

AVG Antivirus Free
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.antivirus

Creative Antivirus Free
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.zrgiu.antivirus

Norton Security and Antivirus
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.symantec.mobilesecurity

Dr.Web Anti-virus Light
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.drweb

NetQin Security & Anti-virus
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.nqmobile.antivirus20

Zoner AntiVirus Free
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.zoner.android.antivirus

Webroot Security & Antivirus
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.webroot.security

Very likely we can set up a separate review category at our site for a more detailed comparison to see how effective these apps are.

by Av_Crazy on 3. January 2012 - 2:38  (86447)

If there's goin to be a seperate review then very good...however if u see this http://www.avast.com/free-mobile-security avast has the most features , more features are coming and everything is for free !

Please consider adding Kingsoft Office (English) to Home and Office section. I think it is a great office suite. Feature-rich(editing included) and entirely free!

Gesture launcher (by Shinji)

https://market.android.com/details?id=jp.shinji.android.app.launcher.gesturelauncher&feature=also_installed#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEwNCwianAuc2hpbmppLmFuZHJvaWQuYXBwLmxhdW5jaGVyLmdlc3R1cmVsYXVuY2hlciJd

launch gesture launcher with skyfish launcher free or task changer ads. That's good shortcut too.

I would like to suggest the following
Call Control - Call Blocker

It has a community Blacklist, as well as your personal list. It blocks calls, sms, spam calls, and much more.

Won Verizon's save time app for the last couple of years.

I have used it for a few weeks now ad it works great.

by abhay2009 on 22. December 2011 - 13:50  (85720)

Dear Jojoyee,

I would like to recommend following good apps to ur attention and request u to review them:
Mobisle Notes - for taking notes and making checklist; comes with reminder/alarm.
StartUp Manager - a very good start up manager.
Mobo task Killer (now Easy Task Killer) with Easy Battery Saver plugin - both are too good. Mobo is automatic task cleaner.
AutoAppOrganizer - it is much much better App Organizer listed herein. Interface itself is praiseworthy. Finally, I got the best App Organizer and launcher.
Sanity - is a very good call manager; runs along with the call; comes with call blocking call recording.
Days left - a nice looking widget for reminding a future task/event.
SeePU - shows cpu activity and available memory in notification. Very handy.
Executive Assistant free - is widget which organizes notifications for missed calls, received messages, calender events, facebook notifications under one widget. Very handy and my favorite!!
AndRoot--- M------- - is a good file manager, though it looks like a root file manager but isn't. (Moderated: Not free)
Habit Streak - a handy app to form any habit.
Quick Exit - provides a shortcut in notification to end any app quickly.
Quick Boot - provides very handy options to reboot or shutdown the phone.
Battery Monitor Widget - is a very good widget and app to show important information about battery state and comes with various alarms necessary for battery maintenance.
ShakeOff - provides a quick way to lock the screen just by shaking the phone.
DeviceInfo - provides a quick view of the system information.

Please provide links. Without links, and with so much of suggestions, I think you will understand how difficult it will be for Jojo, and the moderators to search for each and every suggestion.

Thanks Abhay, much appreciated.

And please, don't call me sir :).

by MidnightCowboy on 30. December 2011 - 13:41  (86229)

No, PM me and I'll suggest something else :D

by abhay2009 on 23. December 2011 - 12:55  (85806)

Dear Anupam,

I agree with u. But I am a user of the android phone. Being a member of this site, I would like to contribute as much as I can. If I suggest more and more good applications, it will be of huge benefit for the user community of this site. However, as I have mentioned the correct names for each app and Jojoyee has explained, there should not be much of a hassle in finding the right applications. In future, I would suggest 2-3 apps at a time with links as required.

by Anupam on 23. December 2011 - 18:50  (85820)

Dear Abhay, we welcome the suggestions gladly, and are ever thankful to the visitors for them. Of course, with the names, one can find them, but still, one has to search, and if there are a whole lot of suggestions, then you can understand, its time consuming to search each and every one of them.

Time is important for everyone. The reason for writing my comment was simple, that the editor does not have to perform time consuming operation for searching and then checking each suggestion. I hope you understand, and thanks for your co-operation.

by Jojo Yee on 22. December 2011 - 14:13  (85724)

It's good to have links but when without, it's ok to me if the app names given are accurate. Quite easy to find them via the Search Box from the Android Market page at https://market.android.com/

Thanks everyone for giving many good suggestions and I'll go through them one by one.

Any.DO
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.anydo&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5hbnlkbyJd

Nice! comfortable for eye and feel cool and clear. Todo that suggest you todo.
and has widget, too,it will be the great todo.

by Jojo Yee on 30. December 2011 - 10:50  (86221)

Any.DO looks pretty good, simple and easy to use. I also like the gesture features such as drag and drop to organize, mark completed task by swiping or clear them all by shaking. That said, syncing tasks with Google Tasks didn't work well in that a task folder deleted from Google Tasks still appeared in this app when I tried it .

A similar app Taskos To Do List | Task List seems to have even more features. Syncing task folders with the Google account worked well when tested but the task items were repeated in my Google Tasks after syncing.

Both apps are potential competitors and would have been better if the above shortfalls are ironed out.

by abhay2009 on 22. December 2011 - 13:52  (85721)

You are right! It may become a favorite todo app!

Skyfish Swipe Launcher free
https://market.android.com/details?id=net.trashfeed.skyfishfree&feature=search_result

Perfect Task Switcher
https://market.android.com/details?id=org.rabold.android.taskswitcher&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsIm9yZy5yYWJvbGQuYW5kcm9pZC50YXNrc3dpdGNoZXIiXQ..

Skyfish Swipe Launcher and Perfect Task Switcher both are Great. I recommended launch perfect task switcher by swipe from right edge screen.cool, yeah, you know.hehe.

by Av_Crazy on 16. December 2011 - 15:32  (85134)
by Jojo Yee on 24. December 2011 - 2:25  (85845)

Defender is a good game to play. Added to the list.

by Jojo Yee on 18. December 2011 - 12:15  (85228)

Espier Launcher worked great and imitated quite closely most features used in launching apps in the iOS, except that overlapping one icon over the other to create a folder didn't work well when I tried it on my Android device. Hopefully its future version will work better.

Many thanks for all the suggestions and they will be looked into.
